eqUIP: the Internship Workshop is underway in Mauritius!

Seventeen young leaders from African and European Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) are taking part in a three-day eqUIP Internship Workshop, held from 5 to 7 October 2026 at Ocean’s Creek Hotel.

The opening ceremony took place today in the presence of CGA Mauritius President Richard Papie, CGA Secretary General Aarti Desscann, Commonwealth Sport’s Regional Development Manager for Africa & Europe Ezera Tshabangu, and other Commonwealth Sport representatives.

“This gathering is a true testament to the vision of Commonwealth Sport, an organisation we deeply admire and respect for its unwavering commitment to empowering young people through sport. For over a decade, Commonwealth Sport has given hundreds of young leaders, like yourselves, the opportunity to grow, to lead, and to build meaningful careers within the sporting world. We are honoured that Mauritius has been chosen to host this cohort, and we see it as a recognition of the strong partnership between our nation and the Commonwealth Sport family,” said Richard Papie in his address at the opening ceremony.

Over the coming days, the interns will take part in skills workshops, team-building activities and cultural celebrations, before beginning their 14-month placements with their respective Commonwealth Games Associations.

Welcome to Mauritius, eqUIP interns and mentors. We wish you an inspiring and memorable week!

We could not be more proud of @kimlecourt on @aginsurancesoudal this week at @letourfemmes avec @gozwift - a stage win, and a top 10 finish at the world’s greatest bike race ❤️🇲🇺

Her performance across this race in 2025 and 2026 makes her the best African female rider ever, and arguably one of the best African riders to race the Tour de France (men’s or women’s editions) 👏👏👏

To quote Kim, it might be time now to “get smashed!”

Enjoy some downtime Kim, you have made Mauritius proud, Africa proud and you are now one of the top female cyclists worldwide for sure ❤️🇲🇺🌍
