Building the next generation of sports leaders!

A week ago, our Head of Communications and Engagement, Cathy Williams, travelled to Mauritius with Team Wales intern Phoebe Hillyard for the Commonwealth Sport eqUIP workshop, joining fellow Commonwealth Games Associations from across Europe and Africa.

From strengthening communication skills and developing essential workplace skills to building connections and sharing experiences across nations, it was an incredible opportunity for the interns to learn, grow and collaborate. 🤝

Team Wales has been part of the eqUIP programme since it began in 2014, and we’re proud to continue supporting opportunities that empower the next generation of sports professionals.

A huge diolch to @olympicmauritius for the warm welcome and to @commonwealthsport for continuing to invest in, include and empower the leaders of tomorrow.

Building skills. Connecting nations. Shaping the future of sport.

Our correspondent on the ground caught up with Aurelien at the start of Stage Six in the city of Yongfeng to hear his thoughts on the race so far…

Our hero @kimlecourt takes third place on Stage 4 of the @thetourofbritain Women, successfully defending her overall lead ahead of tomorrow’s final stage.

“We knew we had to be really alert today because we expected attacks from the other teams. My teammates did everything they could to close the gaps and keep me safe and in a good position. From the final 40 kilometres onwards, it was up to me to show how the legs were and try to gain some seconds at the finish while making sure I finished safely.”

“Tomorrow is another day in green. We really want to keep this momentum going, finish this race in a nice and safe way and, of course, do everything we can to defend the jersey.”

Kim for her @aginsurancesoudal team has a 24 second lead with one stage to go… 🙏🇲🇺🌍

We could not be more proud of @kimlecourt on @aginsurancesoudal this week at @letourfemmes avec @gozwift - a stage win, and a top 10 finish at the world’s greatest bike race ❤️🇲🇺

Her performance across this race in 2025 and 2026 makes her the best African female rider ever, and arguably one of the best African riders to race the Tour de France (men’s or women’s editions) 👏👏👏

To quote Kim, it might be time now to “get smashed!”

Enjoy some downtime Kim, you have made Mauritius proud, Africa proud and you are now one of the top female cyclists worldwide for sure ❤️🇲🇺🌍

Road to Oran: Day 7. The Arena
Morning couldn't come fast enough, the compound bow men's team would be stepping up to the podium to face our friends from Mauritius; this would be our second dance at the podium for gold. They had bested us by a fistful of points the last time in Ivory Coast, hopefully the fair winds of the Mediterranean would bring it's victory today.

While we waited nervously under a tent, like Maximus waited in the hypogeum of the coliseum before his final performance against the Emperor. Our female barebow archer, Faith, had just won her individual gold and stole the heart of the crowd. Our male and female barebow teams went against their rivals and both finished second...narrowly. Not what we hoped for, but a win is a win. Silver over bronze and bronze over nothing.

As the announcer called our names and we marched to ascend the podium under the Mediterranean heat, I could hear Proximus whisper into my ears, "Shadows and dust, Maximus!”.

One arrow after the other, we jarred our Island brothers to reality; we were here to make the archery gods bleed. The results after the first two ends were dangerously close, it's could be anyone's game. At this point, the tension in the air was palpable, there was a deafening silence that followed every arrow call; would the defending champions be unseated or would Nigerians rise to the top of the pecking order?Archery history would be made, either way.

Some how, we miscalculated the timing, we had ran out of time for one arrow, now we were tailing by 10 points. I could see the fire light up in the eyes of the islanders, a glimmer of hope for them. By the time the curtains fell on the area, we had lost by painful 15 points, while we didn't take down the Mauritian dragons, we had made them bleed, enough for them to keep looking over their shoulders till further notice.

It was a good game, we had shot against our brothers and friends. We hugged and congratulated them afterwards. While it was a painful loss, it was still a win for us; we had put up a good fight despite our myriad of relentless challenges. We rose as a team.
"Are you not entertained?!"

Tank emptied.

@kimlecourt gave it everything to the finish in Poligny. Second on GC. Frustration at the group not working together. We go again ❤️🇲🇺
