the very coolest grandpa, Kenrick Chancellor, transitioned a few weeks ago. he would’ve turned 88 last week.

Kenrick, the very ‘k’ that is my middle initial

musician, father, brother, electrician, hess man, immigrant, trailblazer

port of spains finest, mr loverman (1938–2026) 🕊️

he left Trinidad with $60 between him and his best friend and came to the us Virgin Islands with the hope of getting a job at the oil refinery on st croix. they waited outside the gate for weeks until he saw an old friend from his village in Trinidad leave the refinery entrance. his homie hooked him up with an junior electrician job, and thus the trajectory of my entire family line was changed for generations. once he had made enough to get plane tickets, he sent for his wife, francis chancellor, and their children, which includes my father. his vision and hard work are the only reason I get to write this post from america right now

my pops is a standup guy and all but my swag is definitely courtesy of this guy right here. this is one of my favorite pictures of him, we used it for the obituary by @omari_k

one thing I’ve learned about living with white women this week is that they love saying “knock knock” out loud instead of actually just knocking
