POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Purpose came to a close this past weekend at The Huntington Theatre. This production captured the hearts of our audiences and was the perfect way to launch our 26-27 Season.

We want to extend our greatest thanks to this dedicated team; the actors, artists and staff members who brought the words of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins to life and put audiences directly in the room with the Jaspers. #PurposeBOS

Connection and community. That’s the whole…Purpose.

VOX appreciates when #ArtistsCareAboutAccess : when creatives engage directly with our Deaf, Blind, and disabled leaders of the access teams and with community members who get to absorb their art accessibly. Congratulations to the Purpose ASL and AD teams opening the season of accessible performances at The Huntington! To Kill a Mockingbird will have ASL-interpreted, AD, and open captioned performances at the end of October; check out HuntingtonTheatre.org and mark your calendars. “Purpose,” winner of both the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2025 Tony Award for Best Play, is playing at @huntingtontheatre until October 11th, and I’m so glad this one has come to Boston because WOW, it was phenomenal.

I basically have nothing critical to say. The lighting was used perfectly, I loved the 2-story, super detailed set of the home, and everyone in the cast was SO talented. I was a little worried going in because the run time is 2 hours 50 minutes with a 10-minute intermission, but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and time flew by.

I wish I could join a “book club” on this play’s script because there is so much in this story to dig into - the lengths people will go to protect their legacy and complicated family dynamics, especially what children and parents “owe” each other. The only small thing my partner and I noticed was that, a few times when actors stumbled over their lines, they would start the line over, which was a little noticeable. But that was such a minor thing compared to how much I loved the show.

I highly recommend seeing it before their final performance on October 11th - while writing this review, I keep glancing over at my calendar to see if I can find a day to go experience it again!
