It's Today! Eka Iban by Nelly Ating.   In Eka Iban, an Efik phrase meaning “mother of women," Ating stitches her mother’s photographic archive into abstract mixed‑media collages, revealing the weight of cultural expectations shouldered by Nigerian women across generations. Working at the intersection of identity and memory, Ating reframes her mother’s story—once obscured by strict religious observance and unpaid domestic labour—into a narrative of resilience, agency, and post‑feminist ambition. Omenka Gallery is proud to present Eka Iban (Mother of Women), an intimate online exhibition by Nigerian visual artist Nelly Ating, running from June 13 to 27, 2025. Ating’s debut digital presentation explores the layered and often fragile relationship between a millennial daughter and her boomer mother within Nigerian sociocultural traditions. Omenka Gallery is pleased to present Alegría, a solo exhibition by South American painter Mariana Larralde, running from May 24 to 31, 2025. Curated by Ayọ̀ Akínwándé, the collection of works offers an intimate and celebratory glimpse into the heart and soul of Lagos, Nigeria, as experienced through the keen eyes of an artist who has called the city home for over a decade. In Alegría, Larralde moves beyond superficial portrayals to capture the essence of joy as it manifests in the daily lives of Lagosians. Her canvases pulse with the rhythm, resilience, and vibrant colours that define the city. Having immersed herself in the fabric of Lagos for over 12 years, Larralde brings a deeply personal and authentic perspective to her art. Her colours are not merely bright; they are imbued with the intense heat of the Lagos sunlight and the indomitable spirit of its people. Each painting radiates an energy that captures fleeting moments – the saturated hues of a girl's dress, the shimmering reflection of water, and the dynamic movement of patterned fabrics. Alegría is more than just an exhibition of beautiful paintings; it is an offering, a testament to the strength and joy that Lagosians carry like a banner amidst the city's dynamism. "Joy in Lagos isn’t simply an emotion,” says Mariana Larralde. “It’s an act of defiance, a choice to see and celebrate beauty even when circumstances are challenging. Alegría is my tribute to the spirit that sustains us.” (Click on link in bio to read more) #explore #contemporaryart #contemporaryartist #artistsoninstagram #artistsofinstagram #lagos #Nigeria #omenkagallery #drawings #contemporarypainting #ink#charcoaldrawings #blackartist #aficanart #africanartist #exolorepage #identity #charcoal #art #culture #exhibition #artexhibition #soloexhibition #omenkagallery by @omenkagallery

Opening Today! Ijinle Ara | The Depth of Self, a solo exhibition by UK-based Nigerian artist Abraham Babajide Cole. This compelling series of charcoal and ink drawings delves into the complexities of identity, spirituality, and the search for self beyond the surface. Inspired by Yoruba philosophy, which posits that existence extends beyond the visible, Cole’s work invites viewers to look deeper, beyond the reflection in the mirror, and into the intangible essence of selfhood. In an ever-changing world, who are we beneath the shifting masks of time, place, and experience? ***ONLINE ONLY*** Click on link in bio to view exhibition. #explore #contemporaryart #contemporaryartist #artistsoninstagram #artistsofinstagram #lagos #Nigeria #omenkagallery #drawings #contemporarypainting #ink#charcoaldrawings #blackartist #aficanart #africanartist #exolorepage #identity #charcoal #art #culture #exhibition #artexhibition #soloexhibition #omenka by @omenkagallery
