Gallery owners — when an artist signs with you, does anything change about the legal status of their work? For most galleries: no. Here's why registering an artist's copyright is a real value-add you can offer, not just a favour to the artist. #ArtLaw #CopyrightNigeria #GalleryLaw #ArtistRights #AOCSolicitors NigeriaArt

Work title: The language of touch Medium: Acrylic and oil on canvas Size: 36" x 48" Status: available for sale Before a child learns the language of speech, she learns the language of touch. With the touch, the mother says, 'i am here, I love you, I care about you, etc. the baby responds the same way. With the touch, love is shown and received, memories are created. And one day, the mother's hands will grow old and weary, then the memories are brought back to life, the baby in turn reciprocates the love and care shown during her childhood. Asi na nwanyi tocha o chere ibe ya. Ugwu bu nkwanye, nkwanye, nwanyi amuta ibe ya. We all reap what we are. Let's take care of our tomorrow so we can be taken care of when tomorrow comes. #art #contemporaryart #contporaryartist #artcollectors #artlovers

Day 3 of State of the Nigerian Art Industry. Problem 2: the institutions meant to collect money for artists keep falling apart. Nigerian artists have a real legal right to resale royalties — but almost nobody is actually collecting it for them. Here's why, and what would fix it. #StateOfNigerianArt #ArtLaw #NigeriaArt #CopyrightNigeria #AOCSolicitors DroitDeSuite

ARTROAD — Exhibition | Uche James Iroha’s Power and Powers at Omenka Gallery, One Exhibition That Reshaped Our He(arts) Power and Powers stands as a record of a nation’s long struggle with power, political and electric and a reminder that artists can preserve truths that institutions often fail to confront. Words Ireho Aito | Don’t Keep Your Art in the Finger! Photographs credit Uche James Iroha When Lagos-based writer Ireho Aito decided to write about this epoch-making exhibition in 2014, it was written from the soul of a witness to Nigeria’s electricity problems. Nigeria was then 54 years old as an independent nation. Today, in 2026, Nigeria is 65 and approaching 66, while the photographer Uche James Iroha has relocated to America, the writer still lives in Nigeria. This exhibition therefore comes back to us as a commemorative reminder that artists are the mirror of society, and that some works continue to speak long after the gallery doors have closed. Uche James Iroha’s Power and Powers was an exhibition born from a subject Nigerians had lived with for generations, complained about for generations and somehow learned to laugh about: electricity. In Nigeria, the first spoken words coming from a toddler or infant while trying to mutter words and languages can almost be imagined as “Up NEPA!” The phrase became more popular than, and has outlived, many Nigerian presidents, living or dead. It became so synonymous with our modern lexicon that for decades it captured the excitement of electricity returning after an absence. For over 54 years, the phrase remained with us as a nation, despite the change of name, logo and institutional identity from ECN to NEPA, then PHCN, followed by the legendary privatisation process and more promises of reform. Yet the script refused to change. https://ibandmagazine.com/2026/09/06/artroad-exhibition-uche-james-irohas-power-and-powers-at-omenka-gallery-one-exhibition-that-reshaped-our-hearts/

From my hands to the canvas. “AFRO” is more than hair. It’s identity, it’s pride, it’s crown. Every curl tells a story of resilience and royalty. This piece celebrates roots, royalty, and the beauty we were born with. Black is honor. What does your crown mean to you? 👇🏾 Muse- @itzkazuyah #art #afro #artist #davees_arts #blackisbeautiful

Softness and power in the same breath. “WOMAN” is my tribute to Black femininity — the elegance that walks quiet, the resilience that speaks loud.
