👋🏼 Hi I’m Ashley and I am the owner & founder of @zrcskate 🛹🪄 I love teaching people how to #skateboard & running our indoor skatepark but what got me here was my LOVE of building #skateramps! The winter weather finally broke so here’s a recent build. A custom 2’ tall 8’ wide quarterpipe for Aidan in Elizabethton, TN! He’s been coming to our After School Skate Club for a few months & has been dying for a way to practice at home! This youngin’ is about to learn SO MANY new tricks!

As many of you know by now, my long-time place of employment Bistro Roca was lost to a fire. Grief of a place is so real and I have cried many tears the last few weeks. Bistro Roca was a very special home to me for the last 7.5 years. I walked in for an interview in July of 2018 and within moments of meeting Jen I knew this was a restaurant I could work for! What I didn’t know then is just how much this place would come to mean to me. Although I am part-time I never left because this place was just the absolute best. The community they have created, the delicious food they produce, the warm, welcoming ambiance as soon as you stepped inside...I loved bringing friends & family in and I LOVED going to work here. I have laughed, cried, been frustrated, and learned in a way that NO other place of employment can compare to. The authenticity of every aspect is what kept customers coming back time & time again. The real community feel WITHOUT the air of pretentiousness is what made folks LOVE this place. It is what made customers choose us for the special occasions in their lives. It is what made them feel welcome and able to form personal connections with the staff. Roca was a bridge connecting the old High Country to the new and it was an important community space. The loss of it cannot be measured and so many people have been affected.
The owners and management are the definition of community. They have continued to work hard and provide jobs for SO many locals in what is definitely the MOST difficult time to own and operate a restaurant. They have continually risen to the occasion in spite of ever-changing and very challenging conditions (economy/rising food costs, a global pandemic, a freaking hurricane) I could write a book about my experience working here but I think the BIGGEST takeaway is you KNOW that a business is well-run when they show you (by their actions) what kind of employer YOU would like to be. It really, really hurts to watch all of our hard work become a crumpled mess of metal because someone made the AWFUL choice to get behind the wheel of a vehicle hammered. We are lucky no lives were lost but this is going to be a long & stressful process. We are spending a lot of money trying to keep our regular operations on track & getting things cleaned up. Structural engineers, temporary repairs, maintenance, & so much more. If you like what we do at ZRC & can help us we sure would appreciate it. We will do whatever it takes to become whole again but this adds a lot of stress onto an already very-full plate. Please comment & share this video & engage with it on all platforms. But it is still a very sad day for ZRC. Around 1:30am I woke up to a phone call from a state trooper (these are calls you don’t wish on anyone) Luckily we found out everyone was safe but sadly a very intoxicated 18 year-old made the decision to drive drunk & smashed into our camp van which was parked in front of the building. The force of the crash spun the van right into the building causing a LOT of damage. We are very thankful the driver is ok but it hurts a lot when someone else’s bad decisions affect your livelihood & cause stress/sadness/make the dream that much harder to achieve. We are in the process of working with insurance trying to secure a rental so summer camp can proceed as scheduled next week. 😢

We are so grateful it wasn’t a worse situation because it definitely could have been! But I will miss this awesome van. It made SO many new adventures possible for ZRC kids! Lots of smiles, laughter, & joy came about because a little church in Boone sold us their church van last summer. We will keep working hard to move forward but this is definitely a punch in the gut 😞 Thank you to everyone for the texts, calls, & for checking in on the ZRC crew ❤️❤️❤️ taken in ZRC by @omgsomelady

I had a chance to take some groceries & McDonald’s to my favorite cousin yesterday! He made me smile by coming out in the Hulk gear we bought online when he lived with me after Helene! Craig is the best and he shows his love by calling me…5-7 times a day…every day…voicemails too 😂 Had to throw in the Batman quote at the end because that’s his other favorite! #hulkamania by @omgsomelady
