I’ve been making an effort to drink a little more local lately 🍷

The more Ontario wine I drink, the more I think we’re entering a really exciting phase. There’s so much happening in our own backyard.

So here are a few of my favourite Beamsville, Jordan, and Niagara on the Lake stops; the spots that make me excited to keep exploring what’s in our own backyard:

Benchlands - more pinot, gamay, and chardonnay!

🌱 @thewateringcan Garden store, lunch spot, plant therapy… basically an excuse to get lost for an hour or so. Wish it was open on Sundays :(

🍇 @bachelder_wines Chardonnay & Pinot Noir that show just how special our cool climate can be. They growing both on several different single vineyard sites to discover where it grows best, which is fun to experience in their “Batcave” taste and buy - appointment only

🍇 @pearlmorissette Boundary-pushing, experimental and never boring.They question conventions, play with varieties and winemaking techniques, and make wines that feel unmistakably connected to this place. I highly suggest their “nucleus” tastings.

🍇 @malivoire A longtime favourite for Gamay with a lovely cheese truck.

🍇 @rosewoodwine Family-owned, great wine, great vibes, and plenty of personality. Lots of personality!

🍔 @fatrabbit Michelin Guide-recognized and making a damn good burger. Even better? They have serious love for Ontario wine, too.

NOTL - a little more touristy with tons of charm

🥧 @13thstreetbakery If butter tarts are your love language, you’ll want to make this your first stop.

🍇 @bigheadwines Their RAW series is seriously special - I almost always leave with the Syrah. Their tasting menus are impossible to choose between, but fortunately, there’s no wrong answer. I can’t wait to try their Lipinski line

🍇 @stratuswines Love their Chardonnay Amphora. And if you’re tasting, book the White Label. Trust me on this one!

🍇 @twosisters_vineyards Consistently one of my favourite stops in NOTL. Great wine and an impressive menu

🍇 @colaneriestatewinery The closest thing to a European escape without leaving Ontario. A ridiculously beautiful patio and almost mandatory cheese plate. My friend group’s favorite stop. taken in Niagara Falls, Ontario by @omi.n.matcha

Gathering places like @antyliatoronto remind me why restaurants used to mean so much to me. Aldo & Ashley have taken fine dining, and made it feel like home ❤️ They’ve built a space that’s as personal as it is polished.

While I rarely seem to have the time or money to explore restaurants as fervently as I once did, dining solo has actually completely lost its luster for me in the city. I’ve still snuck in some superb bites the last month or so, but I usually feel more like a third wheel than part of the whole.

@antyliatoronto feels different. I didn’t even notice Ashley’s laugh until my wife pointed it out, but @ashleyymckay and her iconic laugh really fills the room with joy. At the same time, @aldo.camarena.jimenez and his stories pull you in, make you care - about the food, about Canada’s farmers, about the diaspora experience.

What we tried was just a sneak peak. Who knows what will stick and what will evolve. All I know is that I left full, things were delicious, and everyone involved made you feel important and part of their story. Check out the pics for a couple highlights from our meal.

🍒 Scallop Tiradito - the sour cherry gastrique, macerated red onion and crispy quinoa made this one of the more fun or at least shocking dishes of the night. Almost reminded me of the numbing sensation that comes from Sichuan peppercorns.

🐟 Kobujime Cod Mextlapique - I don’t even know how to describe this dish or do it justice. If it wasn’t my favorite dish of the night, it was at least the most promising. I would happily drink the poblano consome by itself.

🥦 Roasted Cauliflower & prairie (carrot + caraway) mole w/ spiced seed crumble - Everything about this dish was just perfect. Was Matcha’s favorite dish of the night, and arguably even mine.

🫘 Chive Flower & Lima Bean Tetela - So beautiful and fresh while using some historic corn.

🦆 (14 day miso mole aged) Duck Breast with Mole del la Casa - that mole though 🤤

🍒 Foie Gras Gorditas with spiced cherry mole and sour cherry compote - a really fun start to the meal! by @omi.n.matcha

Date nights may be rare, but that just makes them even more special! This weekend, we got to celebrate both our 10-year anniversary 💍 and Valentine’s Day 💕 with a magical night out. Huge thanks to @evergreen_brick_works for the gift of an unforgettable evening at their DJ Skate Night—we had an absolute blast! Sneaking in tacos & Japanese bites wherever we can! Where have you been filling your taco cravings lately?! Here's a couple of our most recent memorable bites 👀

🌮 Mar couldn't get enough of the tostadas @inmigranteto She enjoyed them so much, she had them all weekend long @thetacofest

🦀 @puertobravo.to is one of our favorite overall Mexican restaurants, and it's so great to have such a great option on the East end 🙌

🍍@losgyrosm might just have Omi's new favorite tacos Al pastor around. Love their pork!

🍋‍🟩 You won't be running out of limes, salsa, or pineapple @taqueriaelpastorcito__ This spot really brought me back to Mexico. Wish it was my neighborhood spot

🌵 Can always count on @xolo.to
For a fun and exciting menu during their pop-ups. Couldn't believe how well their cactus worked with the tacos 👌

🌮 I'm going to have to go back to @loscantaritostoronto to try their cantaritos, but enjoyed my first taste of birria for sure!

🐔 Had some of the friendliest service ever @sumoki_ca to go along with some delicious tsukune.

🍜 Matcha couldn't pass up trying the matcha ramen @midoriramen.official Pretty fun!

🇯🇵 Had a great overall time @japanfestivalcanada this year. Waited a bit long for some items, but was happy to have some quick & delicious takoyaki from @ryus_noodle_bar

Been super busy the last month or two but still snuck in some memorable meals. What was your most memorable bite of Spring??!

🍤 We recently had a fun date night @kohlipeto Their chili seafood dish was a lot of fun!

🧦 Watched some baseball in Boston with the brother and cousin while chowing down on a pretty special lobster roll and a delicious brisket sandwich @sweetcheeksbbq

🍜 @anthoni.foodlab introduced us to possibly our new favorite ramen spot @musoshin_toronto 👌

🍄 @littlejerryto is always a treat. Sad to see @aldo.camarena.jimenez & @ashleyymckay leave the kitchen, but I'm excited for whatever they do next while the Jerry continues to impress everytime they switch things up.

🦞 @hungry.jo absolutely spoiled us over an epic chinese feast

🍓 Somehow got paid to supervise @canadaswonderland and couldn't leave without a funnel cake! by @omi.n.matcha

Hey, foodies! Today, we’re on a delicious mission to explore two of the hottest spots in town for amazing food and cocktails. Let’s dive in!

First stop… @overpressureclub - an upscale cocktail bar that features tapas style snacks and creative drinks on tap. We really loved our experience here. Upscale yet casual, and we found ourselves really vibing to the music and overall sound of the place. Can’t believe we almost walked out without trying the loaded fries… easily our favorite bite of the night!

Next up, celebrating my buddy Omar @silenth.to - possibly the best place in the city according to @ya.boy.scottie It’s a trendy hangout with Mexican inspired tacos and cocktails. The tuna tostadas & cachetadas were two favourites. The decor and vibe pack in a diverse crowd and leave a lasting impression. taken in Toronto, Ontario by @omi.n.matcha

Very rarely do I enjoy the cocktails as much as the food. If you want the best of both worlds you might want to give @overpressureclub a look 👀

Where do you go to sip and nibble??!

While the short rib was tasty, it was actually the loaded (curry) fries that was probably our favorite bite. Going to have to return for their #karaage since it seems like a crowd favorite. Matcha will more than happily return for some more mushrooms 😋

With @jorgeerdgz & Sasha behind the drinks, I already knew we'd enjoy those. Besides, this is the sister resto to @projectgigglewater which makes some of my fave drinks in the city. The Pandan-O-Rama & double Verde colada probably left the biggest impression, but I also really enjoyed their version of a spicy Marg. The rice chip garnish on the Colada was a fun addition! Loved the pineapple & coconut flavors for the actual drink. by @omi.n.matcha

Great company, good vibes, and delicious food had me not wanting to leave @kaminari_ramen_bar 🍜 Wish this was my neighborhood spot.

I'm going to have a tough time deciding between apps on my next visit because everything left an impression. Options galore over here, as even the ramen has some fun bites. The wonton was a fun addition!

Service was super friendly. Shoutout to the lovely @tomomi.arimura and her incredible memory. She somehow remembered three of us after seeing each of us at different restos before. Enjoyed her fun wine pairings too 🙌

No veggie ramen for Matcha 😢 But the tuna, tofu, and mushrooms will keep her happy! taken in Queen Street West by @omi.n.matcha
