MasterArtClasses, a platform for teaching art, heritage matters and indigenous knowledge announces Telling Textile Tales, an online conference to be broadcast live from the 26-28th of September, 2022 at 2pm WAT. This online conference is supported by the British Council SSA programme grant 2021/2022.

The conference weaves different dimensions of textile art into a tapestry that will illuminate both the ancient and contemporary practices of the art to reveal multivocal conversations and multiculturalist expressions that textiles engender. It will bring together experts, fashion designers, artists, entrepreneurs and teachers working on various aspects of textile art and design from Nigeria, Jamaica, UK and the USA. Scholars are drawn from all the geopolitical regions of Nigeria. Speakers will discuss topics that reveal the complexity of textile art and production from their own perspectives and spaces.
Rather than the usual keynote addresses that characterize academic conferences, a series of conversations with great fashion icons that have shaped the world of fashion both locally and internationally will be held. Some of the topics to be discussed during this three-day event will engage the place of textile in community engagement, widespread notions of fabric designing, pedagogical dimensions of textile designs within the academy and informal structures. In addition, it will also explore the interface between fashion and textile, costume designing, textile and ancillary arts, the role of textile cooperatives, exploration of textiles in artistic creations, historical considerations, gender relations and cross-cultural connections.

I am thoroughly excited by this. This goes to show how far we can go if we only believe. You can be anywhere you want to be.
I worked for over a decade in television post-production, left for almost eight years to have a family. I came back to work again but from the lowest rungs.
And now, I am here.

Reposted from @shyllonmuseum ‘THE INVINCIBLE HANDS’ is the YSMA’s newest exhibition that will be on display as from the 28th of August 2021 at 11am through to January 2022.

Curated by Olufisayo Bakare (fifibaxx), it features an all-female cast of artists and aims to put the spotlight on Nigerian female artists as they have been underrepresented in the telling of Nigeria’s art history.

This exhibition is possible due to the sponsorship provided by Art Friends (@artfriends.ng ). Art friends is a group of five friends united by their mutual love of art.

This exhibition will be on display at the Ground Floor of the Museum’s building at the Pan-Atlantic University’s main site. Located at Km 52, Lekki-Epe Expressway (Near Elwood Beach Junction), Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

I had an awesome time on Saturday 21st August at the opening of the art exhibition 'Art Arising'. It is an on-going joint art exhibition at the National Museum, Lagos, in which I am showing. The exhibition is on till the 3rd of September.

The Artist.
Omoligho Udenta

She has had two solo exhibitions in 2016 and 2018 respectively. In her work, she uses flowers as a metaphor for humanity, our peculiar similarities and yet, immense diversity. She explores various materials in her creative explorations and processes.
