☀️ Comment SOLAR & we’ll DM you the link to sign our letter to U of T President Melanie Woodin.

On-site solar currently supplies just 1% of the University of Toronto’s electricity. Our new report, Scaling Solar Power at the University of Toronto, finds that solar installations on rooftops and over parking lots across its three campuses could raise that to approximately 25%.

Reaching more of this untapped potential would:

☀️ Help U of T achieve its climate and sustainability goals

🏭 Reduce Ontario’s reliance on gas-fired electricity, including Toronto’s Portlands gas plant

💡 Help meet growing electricity needs without relying on much more expensive new nuclear projects

🇨🇦 Reduce Ontario’s dependence on imported U.S. fossil gas

🛠️ Create local jobs and hands-on renewable energy learning opportunities for students

🌱 Make U of T a model for combining solar power with improved energy efficiency

We’re asking U of T President Woodin to develop and implement a plan to achieve 50% of U of T’s on-site solar potential by 2030 and 75% by 2035.

The potential is there. It’s time for U of T to put it to work.

📺 Vintage is a vibe. It’s NOT an energy plan.

The 1986 Zenith Space Command TV is undeniably aesthetically cool today. It’s a vintage icon and a reminder of another era. But appreciating old technology doesn’t mean it should remain at the centre of our modern lives.

Pickering’s “newer” nuclear reactors came online in that same era. Now, four decades later, the Ford government plans to spend $26.8 billion rebuilding them.

Ontario has seen nuclear refurbishment projects run billions over budget. Meanwhile, wind, solar and storage can provide electricity at less than half the cost of new nuclear projects.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a little nostalgia. But Ontario’s electricity system should be built for the future.

Want Ontario to invest in affordable renewable energy instead of rebuilding the past?

Comment PLAN and we’ll DM you the link to sign our letter. ✍️

Today was a bad day for asthma… and general human and animal health…

I took my dog for what I thought would be a quick walk. Fifteen minutes later, my throat and lungs were burning. Then, a drizzle of rain... and the rain made my skin itch.

When we got home, My dog smelled like she'd been sitting beside a campfire.

This isn't normal.

The skies over Toronto looked surreal. Apocalyptic. The Toronto Star described them as "hellish," and honestly, that didn't feel like an exaggeration.

What blows my mind is that there are still people who deny climate change when we're witnessing scenes like this around the world with increasing frequency.

Even more frustrating is watching governments continue to make decisions that move us in the wrong direction.

The Ford government wants Ontario to burn more fossil gas for electricity. The Carney government continues sending mixed signals by supporting more fossil fuel infrastructure while talking about electrification and climate leadership.

What more do our leaders need to see?

How many more smoke-filled summers?

How many more record-breaking heat waves?

How many more communities displaced by wildfires?

How many more days when the air is unsafe to breathe?

We don't have to keep making this worse.

Ontario has affordable alternatives. Wind, solar and battery storage are now winning competitive electricity procurements because they're cheaper, faster to build and don't add more climate pollution to the atmosphere.

The solution certainly isn't more fossil fuels.

It's replacing polluting gas-fired power and high cost nuclear with climate-saving renewable energy.

Because if skies like these still aren't enough to convince our leaders that it's time to change course... what will be?

Ontario's Energy Minister just handed Bruce Power $300 million to kickstart another massive nuclear project on the shores of Lake Huron.

And this is only the beginning...

This project could cost Ontarians upwards of $110 BILLION – locking families into decades of higher hydro bills.

Meanwhile, wind and solar are cheaper, faster to build, and already powering communities around the world.

Nuclear is a losing bet for Ontario ratepayers – with soaring costs, delays, and financial risk.

We deserve affordable energy – not another nuclear mega-project gambling away billions in public money. 🎲

Tell Energy Minister Lecce to stop betting Ontario’s future on expensive nuclear projects while lower-cost renewable energy is ready NOW.

Comment “BET” and we’ll send you the link to sign our letter!

Why are we paying more for power? 💸

Ontario Power Generation wants to build the world’s largest nuclear station in Port Hope — a project that could cost $230 billion and drive up our electricity bills even higher.

OPG isn’t even required to examine lower-cost alternatives!

☀️ Wind + solar: ~8.8¢/kWh

⚛️ Nuclear: up to 25.3¢+

☀️ Renewables + storage are a fraction of the cost of new nuclear

⚡ Offshore wind + solar could meet Ontario’s electricity needs reliably 24/7

So why are we being told there are “no alternatives”?

👉 It’s about your electricity bill

👉 It’s about how we power #Ontario for decades

📢 It’s time for a real review.

Tell PM Carney to direct the IAAC to examine lower-cost renewable options before it’s too late.
