💣 Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman 💣
Convincing you to read this series (I’m 16% through Book 7!) without spoilers; a short essay. 🫶🏻

Firstly, I’d like to address the issue of these being “boys books”. That’s bollocks, sexist, and inaccurate as fuck. Oh, and if you don’t like swearing, stop reading here as this series definitely isn’t for you. Gaming isn’t exclusive to men. Table top RPGs aren’t exclusive to men. And DCC isn’t for men either! Girls, you’ll love it too, I promise!

Okay; so what on earth are these books about? Because I assume all you know is there is a man in his pants, a cat, and maybe you’ve seen a dinosaur kicking about. Well, on the surface it’s a survival story as aliens televise the dungeon for universal entertainment. Kill mobs, level up, get loot.

But it is so much more than that. It is a story of resilience, of found family, of hope and grief. It’s the story of humanity, it’s highs and lows. It’s a story of unfair systems, human commodification, the entertainment industry, capitalism, oppression, political injustice, and war crimes. It’s rebellion; quiet and loud; against it all!

The books are full of satire, pop culture references, self-deprecating reflections of humanity, lots of gore, and quotes that will stay with you (for better or worse). The characters have incredible growth and relationships.

These books will make you laugh with the most outlandish sentences you’ve couldn’t even begin to think of, will bring tears to your eyes with moments of devastating loss, have you on the edge of your seat with anxiety, and angry at the world (fictional and otherwise..) because of the injustices.

The story telling itself is phenomenally done, and if you can do the audiobooks Jeff Hayes has made them a masterpiece. The books are on KU and from the end of May will be on Libby. So you can try before you buy!

It’ll be the best thing you do to join The Princess Posse 👑

Have you read them? Will you read them? 🫶🏻

📚 Brandy Sandy 📚

Well there we go, I’ve read the whole Cosmere in 2025! From learning about Allomancy on Scadrial, to ending with the Dakwara in Emberdark; it’s been a journey!

I wanted to take a photo holding them all but it was impossible so I did some silly little floor photos instead! Can we all pretend I don’t need a hair cut please, thanks.

Let’s pick some favourite things! 💕

Top 5 female characters: Vin, Steris, Raboniel, Sarene, Shallan.
Top 5 male characters: Adolin, Szeth, Wayne, Hoid, Raoden.
Favourite beings: Kandra, Spren, and the poor Koloss.
Favourite planet: Lumar; imagine those beautiful seas
Favourite standalone: (Warbreaker and Elantris won’t remain standalone forever so I don’t have to pick between them) Tress of the Emerald Sea by a small margin
Favourite series: Stormlight Archive
Favourite magic system: Spren bonds on Roshar (according to the website I would be an Edgedancer!)
Most hated characters: Moash, Straff Venture, and Sadeas.
Least favourite planet: I would hate to live on Canticle
Favourite shard: Harmony
Best character arc: Steris, Dalinar, Wayne, Lightsong.
Rent free scenes in my head: “honor is dead but I’ll see what I can do” ✊🏻 and “they deserve a rest I think” 😭 and Shallan stabbing herself in leg and tripping into a circle of men with her safe hand uncovered for experiments 😂 and Raboniel with Essu 💔

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Recommended reading order:
Mistborn (The Final Empire)
The Well Of Ascension
The Hero Of Ages
Warbreaker
The Way of Kings
Words Of Radiance
Elantris (Could be read first)
Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection
Oathbringer
Dawnshard
White Sand
Rhythm Of War
The Alloy Of Law
Shadows Of Self
The Bands Of Mourning
The Lost Metal
Tress Of The Emerald Sea
Yumi And The Nightmare Painter
Wind and Truth
The Sunlit Man
Isles of the Emberdark

I followed this guide from thequilltolive dot com found via Google and I found it flawless. You could break Arcanum Unbounded down but I read it as one excluding Edgedancer which I read separately where listed.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Now to continue obsessing endlessly. Bye.

📖 Weekly wrap up & catch up 📖

What a busy week; my part time 8 hour a week job has been 20+ hours this week, we’ve rearranged to get the new fridge freezer in but now have the old broken one just hanging out in the way of Ollie’s playroom, I’ve had a few appointments, and of course napped a lot. I haven’t really taken any bookish photos or even achieved much Canva time but I spent 5 hours highlighting names with less than 3 letters and that start with S and managed to finish 3 books; I have about 90 minutes of reading left for Crescent City 3 that I’ll finish in the morning, and after the cliffhanger of The Blood We Crave part 1 I’ll be diving straight into book 2 after.

What have you been up to this week?
What have you been reading or planning to read next week?

Next week I’m hoping to get plenty of photos taken, and visit a pumpkin patch. It should be a good week! 📸🎃

Are you working your way through 46,600 names too? 📝

Join me in a little afternoon reset 😌

Sometimes we need a book, a hot drink, a chocolate snack, some self care, a little cosy activity and a blanket. Today is that day for me; just finished three days of work in a row, my chronically ill body is screaming at me, the child is away on a trip and the husband is at work until late this evening.

You’ll find me here for the next few hours.

When was the last time you stopped and let yourself guilt free relax and rest? Do you manage to make time often?

Also; how good is the dramatised Crescent City? I’m loving it! It’s on Spotify so I’m switching it on whenever I want to read but not read

🖤🩷 Tourmaline 🩷🖤

When it came to October’s birthstone tourmaline, I was torn between black and pink variants. So naturally I went with both, because why choose?

That means 6 book recommendations:
🖤 The Dark Lords Guide to Dating by Tiffany Hunt
🩷 First-Time Caller by BK Borison
🖤 Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
🩷 X Marks The Stalker by KN Wilder
🖤 When The Moon Hatched by Sarah A Parker
🩷 Across The Vanishing Sky by Catherine Cowles

Do you love any of these books? 📚
What colour tourmaline do you think of? 🩷 or 🖤

Swipe along for my previous captions on 5 of the books; I’ve never really done a post dedicated to Six of Crows alone so it doesn’t have one despite it being one of my absolute favourites 🖤

The Canva for the gemstone book recommendations is linked in my bio; please tag me if you use them 🫶🏻

🐉 October first is always Threshing. 🐉

Book:
The art was such a delightful surprise! And I am SHOOK at the revelations we have learnt from reading this. Like how the signets are formed at the time of bonding, how the dragons are just straight up blatantly lying, and what is with the trees?! I’ll be lost in the theories and posts picking out nuggets I missed. This was a delightful snack! 📖🖤

And the website?
I died twice; indecision killed me the first time and then I decided foolishly. In the end, I got through Threshing with only the usual trauma of seeing my fellow cadet incinerated in front of me 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 and bonded a male red clubtail the same age as me; we can be hot headed and destructive together 🔥❤️ Sgeraes ❤️🔥 I can’t wait to see what signet I develop in May 👀

Anyone else a Third Wing, Tail Section, Third Squad member? I need to know who’s got my back and who’s back I’m protecting 🔥

Show me your dragons in comments! 🔥
Or tell me what part of this book you loved? Or hated? Or surprised you? 👀

🧡🔟 Hello October 🔟🧡

It’s spooky season 👻

Naturally we must start with the spelling stack scrabble chapter count image. But if I have the energy and time I really want to take a tonne of photos this month; witchy books, autumn romances, paranormal vibes 👀🖤

We’ve got the pumpkin patch booked in, going to a strip show set to Slipknot music and vibes, and are seeing Chris Ramsey live. I’ll hopefully be managing some mushroom hunts, a zoo visit (so sad I missed last month), some cute cosy crafts, and sneaking in a few favourite films for the season. And of course I’ve got a list of books I’m hoping to get through 🤞🏻

What’s on your October to do list? 📋
