Born in 1962, Ryu is a silversmith where her life and practice is based in Korea.

Ryu’s coffee wares offer a quiet reflection on the beauty created through the dialogue between material, the hand, and the passage of time, where craft and daily life naturally converge.

Rather than pursuing perfect symmetry, Ryu embraces the natural flow of the material and the marks left by the hand, bringing warmth and humanity to the inherent strength of metal. Each vessel exists as both a functional object and an independent sculpture. by @onelessdecision

‘In 2017, during my time in Shanghai, I developed a fascination for Chinese tea and the ritual that came with it. From this, by nature, I started to take interest in the objects and the tools akin to this ritual.’

Kenny’s rendition for this exhibition relate specifically to preparing Pu’erh cha (fermented tea), the act of rinsing-steeping tea and using the Gaiwan (lidded tea bowl), over the Cha Pan (tea tray). by @onelessdecision

Kyungwon Baek is a ceramic artist who creates vessels and sculptural objects using handbuilding techniques. Her works are the result of translating the external world into her own visual language.

The works presented in this exhibition were made with intimate tea gatherings—shared alone or with one other person—in mind. Among them, the Tea Table was created as a stage where tea utensils can be displayed and appreciated almost like the protagonists of a scene. It grew out of the artist’s desire to make the experience of drinking tea more engaging and enjoyable. Depending on how the tea utensils are arranged, the work reveals a different landscape each time. Visitors are invited to take notice of these ever-changing compositions as they engage with the work. by @onelessdecision

Dahm Lee (b.1986) is an object and furniture artist, working and living between Berlin and Korea.

Lee’s practice explores the potential of objects, moving beyond conventional ideas of aesthetics or function, and considers how materials and forms shape perception and interaction.

The ‘mmm‘ series (massive metallic mass) explores volume, rhythm and surface through repeated gestures of hand-bent, layered steel bars.

The mmm flat-form takes the shape of a tray-like object that can be arranged in multiple identical units. by @onelessdecision

‘Seeking an alternative to the teapot, I looked at objects and ideas associated with the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Through my research I encountered the following poem by Sen no Rikyu (1522-1591), a preeminent Japanese tea master:’

*Chanoyu is nothing but this:
Boil water, infuse tea, and drink.
That is all you need to know.
(*Chanoyu = Tea Ceremony or Way of Tea)

According to Rikyu there are four fundamental qualities that should be exemplified in the tea ceremony: harmony, respect, purity, tranquility. The abstract simplicity of this approach informed the conceptual basis for my teaset.

Previously exhibited at the Jam Factory, SA, 2002 & at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, 2008. by @onelessdecision

Hendrik’s Teapot is a fine example of his inventive style in re-configuring traditional forms, whilst employing clever and witty engineering.

Hendrik Forster is widely known as one of the most significant figures in modern Australian Silversmithing.

Born in 1947, he trained at the Gold and Silversmithing Department of the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, There he trained under Professor Franz Rickert, a prominent German silversmith and an advocate of traditional forms. A year after his graduation in 1973, Forster migrated to Australia. His work and practice has been highly influential, both as an educator and a master silversmith. by @onelessdecision
