Join us for a very special BioBAT Open Studios, featuring new work by the Living Records Collective, Michelle Shengyu Li, Liam Davis, and Sofia Klimkowski Arango.

The collective presents an evolving archive of photographs, lab experiments, and writings emerging from a year-long investigation into the technological legacy of the 1969 Apollo 11 mission — and the ways photographic bias continues to shape whose lives, labor, and histories are preserved, platformed, and remembered.

🏆 Winners of the 2025 Biodesign Challenge Outstanding Art Prize, and following a year-long mentorship with BioBAT Art Space and MICA Professor Ryan Hoover, Living Records explores how image culture shapes collective memory through bacterial photography processes that create ephemeral living images using photo-reactive pREDawn E.coli.

What images stick with us?
Who gets to be remembered?
And who gets access to the technologies that store our memories?

✨ Please note: This will be BioBAT Art Space’s final public-facing event at the Brooklyn Army Terminal after an incredible 7.5-year run. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating this very special moment with us.

“Staid”

2025

Iron oxide linseed oil paint, perlite concrete, rebar

~ 29 x 37 x 37 inches

On view @_area405_ until November 21 as a part of Pitted: Home at the Heart of an Empire. Curated by @nadianazar and @minasarfaraz. Thank you so much to everyone in Pulp for collectively putting this show together. Thank you to Area 405, and everyone who has come to see the work. It has been a joy to be a part of this project!

The form of the column is from Mies Van Der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion. The form of the rock it emerges from is a small piece of Iron ore from Arizona, scaled up in size to become more significant.

Thank you to @havi.ptrsn for the instant photos. by @onlydecorations

“Living With it”

On view now @goya_contemporary_gallery until Nov 1. As well as the first iteration of the work.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to iterate and expand this piece, and to all those who lent a hand, without whom this would not have been possible. Thank you to everyone at Goya and to everyone who helped frame a print or ferry material from one place to another!
