Please

Pulled to its knees, the gate references my father's family home in Kerala, sitting in the Jalsah position - praying for a peace and alignment that feels on the horizon yet so out of reach.

Please had some sweet company at Pitted and will be up in more company at Murmurations, The Steel Yard Winter Resident Show, opening next Thursday January 29th from 6-9pm at WaterFire Arts Center in Providence. The show will be up until March 1st :)

PULP Collective’s show Pitted: Home at the heart of an Empire will be on display at @_area405_ in good ole Baltimore until November 21st! Thank you so much to @minasarfaraz & @nadianazar for curating such an incredible show and creating a space for all of us to make work we are really proud of. I feel super honored and grateful to be apart of this show and this collective with so many people I admire and love.

My newest work, You’re So Real, You’re So Cool (Sekou, Zuri,Almeda), is a triptych of three figures that represent the 20+ year experience of finding, losing, and rediscovering one’s self on the internet.

Inspired by adolescent dress up games and social media avatars, I try to make sense of my own feelings towards the performance of self online and how that bleeds into who we are IRL.

(Thank you @momogreengreen for taking this picture of me ❤️)

Almost Holding, 2025
18” x 16” x 10”
Casted bronze; porcelain; candles; incense and performance

Five holders are made for and casted from fragments of the hand — the palm, the dorsum, the thumb, the inner index and the knuckle. My hand becomes a portable altar for the wearable prayer of endurance and care. 🕯️🤍🫴

The group show is currently on view at Area 405 @_area405_ till November 21. Thank you @nadianazar @minasarfaraz for facilitating and curating the show ☺️💕 and thank you PULP collective for everything 🥺🍅🍑💗The weekend was beautiful seeing all of you, it was such honor to be friends and show case work with such talented and caring group of you, thank you for the love, I love yall🥹❤️ And special thank you to @onlydecorations for making the wooden alter 🥹🫶

Pitted opens Friday October 10th at Area 405 from 5-9pm as a part of Baltimore Station North's Artwalk.

As a part of PULP Collective, all the exhibiting artists have been developing new work around the question: How do we build home at the heart of an empire? With reading discussions, critiques, and laughter - we have been holding each other in these processes and questions.

Pitted: Home at the Heart of an Empire opening on October 10th from 5-9pm at Area 405, presented by PULP Collective. Curated by Mina Sarfaraz and Nadia Nazar

Growing up under the rapid synchronized development of the internet and the climate crisis, impermanence has dictated our lives. As witnesses of industrialization’s indefinite expansion, we wonder how to root ourselves in a foundation that bears constant extraction, extinction, and exploitation. We ground ourselves in the cultivating of homes, in remembering what was and fostering what could be. What if we stick our hands in the soil? What if we shape the air? Blow the dust off of our fingertips? What if we let things get dirty?

Can the Earth afford our dream of living?

PULP Collective is a group of emerging artists rooted in Baltimore working towards a future of collaboration and care within craft, friendship, and the processes that bring them together.

I started PULP Collective a year ago to continue fostering the community and friendship so many of us made working alongside each other in undergrad. From critiques to reading discussions, we have held each other in care and accountability for the work we make and the conversations we foster.
