Lately, I’ve heard some version of this more than a few times: “Wait… I didn’t know you worked with brands. I thought you just did the podcast!” @itsonthepass It always makes me smile and laugh a bit. Because to me, the two have never been separate. @onthepass.studios helps brands connect to culture and build community through strategy, storytelling and experiences. And On The Pass has been one of our own proofs of concept and where we get to test and learn. For nearly seven years, the team and I have been building a brand, an audience and a global community across 67 countries. We’ve built relationships with chefs, restaurateurs, hoteliers, winemakers and some of the most thoughtful people shaping hospitality today. The podcast is absolutely a love letter to this industry and the people that love it. But it’s also a living case study in what we believe brands should be doing: creating value before asking for attention. Building community before selling to it. Developing a point of view. Showing up consistently and earning trust over time! That makes our work at On The Pass Studios better. When I sit across from a three-Michelin-star chef, a hotelier, a winemaker or the CEO of a hospitality company, those conversations don’t end when the cameras stop rolling. That intelligence comes back into the studio. It informs how we think about culture, how consumers are changing and what hospitality leaders are wrestling with. Also, what people actually care about right now and how we help our partners build brands that matter. We’re not building a media company over here and a creative studio over there. We’re building an ecosystem where media creates intelligence, intelligence makes the work better, the work expands the community, and the community makes the platform stronger. Maybe that’s the part we need to talk about more… Because we don’t just tell brands how to build audiences and communities. We’ve spent nearly seven years building one ourselves! Our recent short with Chef Roberto Alcocer of Valle in Oceanside is a reflection of that philosophy — a story shaped not only by the chef, but by the culture, landscape and experiences that inform his cooking. We always think about the audience first. What are we giving them? What can they feel, discover or carry with them? Some projects stay with you long after the cameras stop rolling 🎥 Working on Off Road Confidential with Visit California and NewsNation was a reminder that the best stories about a place are rarely just about the destination. They’re about the people, communities and connections that give that place meaning. That was one of my biggest takeaways from this special: travel has the power to bring us closer—to a culture, to a community and ultimately, to one another.
