Join us for a late summer afternoon reading and listening session 28 Aug 16:00 — 18:00
~ Helsinki's Kaisaniemi Botanic outdoor gardens and on the @ooo_radio airwaves

With live readings from Follow the Plants book contributors Joana Quiroga, Joss Allen and Sirkku Rosi, and recordings shared from those further afield including Alana Hunt, Annalee Davis, Christian Thompson, Mariana Martínez Balvanera and Zayaan Khan.

Bring your own planty readings, recipes and stories to share, a blanket and some snacks for the table, and a set of headphones if you have them!

Plant infused syrup cordials will be served alongside some light snacks.

To listen in remotely, join via the @ooo_radio live broadcast.

This event is a collaboration between Bioart Society, @food_art_research_network, @ooo_radio and Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden.

Venue / Location:
Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden (Kaisaniemenranta 2, Helsinki) outdoor garden on the side of Kaisaniemenranta, in the surroundings of a small glass pavilion opposite Café Viola. Please note that there are not many benches nearby but the seating will take place on the grass.

Booking is not required for this event, and you can turn up anytime between 16:00-18:00

This Sunday 23rd August, we are re-broadcasting a special listening event and radio broadcast with Gintė Preisaitė @ginteprei and Reinis Ramans @reinisramans, who will share the results of their week-long residency at Retrito smarsas @retrito.smarsas in Vilnius. This residency is part of the project Baltic Rehearsals, supporting the creation of new music by artist duos from the Baltics and organised by the Independent Community Radio Network @i_c_r_n.

Accompanying them with a DJ set is Teatre @teatre__, who will have just returned from a week-long residency in Estonia with Maarja Nuut and IDA Radio @ida.radio, as part of the same project. This will be followed by another set by Matas Aerobica.

What is a Community Radio Station?

What is it that constitutes a community radio station? What are the important things, physical or other, that define or set out the space of the community radio station?

Many community stations do not have a permanent home. Many stations do not have a coherent community. OOO Radio for example is nomadic, broadcasting from any space with an internet connection. For other community radios the space, equipment or sense of belonging is important. OOO Radio will host a discussion around what it is that defines a community radio station, why these things are important and how this perhaps changes over time. by @ooo_radio

Tonight and tomorrow from 7pm EET, we are airing the latest episode of Musical Musings by @chrishazboun, focussing on the cultural, poetic and musical heritage of Iran feat. Iranian-British duo Tara Fatehi and Pouya Ehsaei.

Together they run an eclectic poetry and music night ‘From the Lips to The Moon’, and who will be releasing an eponymous album relating to the events they’ve held in London over the past couple of years, but also reflecting impactful events relating to Iran, Palestine and the SWANA.

‘Unleashing Unruly Emotions feat. From The Lips to The Moon’

While the petro-chemical industries come to a halt and the imperially linked container trade pauses, the black fumes of oil devour horizons and lands across the South West Asia and another war within a war unfolds to tell the stories of conquerors who come and go and people who remain steadfast on their land.

Engulfed by all these unfolding events, Musical Musings show host and producer Christina Hazboun invites artistic duo Pouya Ehsaei and Tara Fatehi, to unfold their work around their unusual music and poetry night From the Lips To The Moon (with an eponymous debut album coming out).

Through music, poetry and folk traditions we will unleash our unruly emotions, and share conversation and sound, wandering through different regions in Iran and listening to timeless poetic traditions, while highlighting the work of Pouya and Tara, their extensive collaborators and the different historical moments their legendary trans-continental work encompasses and reflects.
