POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Come along to Bioart Society's SOLU Space or listen along via @ooo_radio as we launch this little gem 💎 commissioned by BAS from @awaitingbody as a reflective research project and finding form through correspondence with @elinawaage as a score for "fielding the field"

Part of our Rewilding Cultures trio publication launch 1 October 6-7.30pm

Fieding Climate Change: A Cranky Score For (One’s Politics Of) Curiosity
Anastasia (A) Alevtin & Elina Waage Mikalsen
Designed and printed by Roby Redgrave / @fantasyprint.house
Available as an open access PDF and limited edition risograph pamphlet (print run of 100 copies)

In Fielding Climate Change: A Cranky Score For (One’s Politics Of) Curiosity Anastasia (A) Alevtina and Elina Waage Mikalsen explore curiosity as a political and affective force that shapes how we encounter places, people, materials, and knowledge.

Developed in the context of the Ars Bioarctica residency in Gilbbesjávri, Sápmi, the publication takes the form of a pocket companion – a portable score that can accompany (not only residency participants but) anyone engaging with fieldwork, artistic research, or situated practices and reflecting practices and ethical relations of fieldworking. Drawing from their intersecting Sámi and crip perspectives, the authors question extractive and colonial ways of approaching fields and knowledge, and invite readers to slow down, notice, and tend to the relationships, needs, infrastructures, and material conditions that shape their practices. Rather than offering instructions, the cranky score opens up space for curiosity, reflection, and thinking otherwise about how we enter, inhabit, and work with(in) a field.

As part of our Follow the Plants research assembly we hosted a very lovely afternoon in Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden as a collaboration between @food_art_research_network x @bioartsociety x @ooo_radio

Editors of Follow the Plant book Madeleine Collie and Yvonne Billimore read from texts on behalf of authors, we heard the beautiful Phantom from @christianthompsonartist which opened and closed the session. We heard fragments of film from @alanavhunt Surveilling a Crime Scene and a story from Caribbean gardener @annalee.devere and recordings of For the Love of Wildfires by Margherita Pervere and Diane Viera

We invited readings from the books contributors including @sirkkurosi who gave us a treat by singing the Brazilian song Bem do Mar which features in her text in the book. We heard from @iamajoq long time FAR member and organiser who read Intruder – essay 01: the anthropogenic a speculative fiction she wrote with the Chilean dramaturg Andrea Franco. In it, a Fungus from the Kasaniemi’s Herbarium collection, that lives in (and travels with) wheat, analyzes human past, present and future acting as a sort of oracle. We heard the lovely poems from @gardening_otherwise which also feature in the publication.

We had a special offering from guest of the assembly @gaylenegould who treated us to a reading of her breadfruit text from The Garden Manifesto that tells the story of the plants origins.

We were accompanied by an attentive audience and the brilliant work of Tian who invited us to contribute to his installation of leaves in the grove of trees near the grassy area where we gathered.

Thank you so much to @manuelvason for documenting and Tian for his support.
And thank you to our funders @saastamoinenfoundation @fininst_uk_ireland for making this afternoon magic possible.
