What a great few weeks! Opal Joy Art Club Camps 2026! Around the lake…Smiles, laughs, slime, clay, bubbles, design work, sketching, sewing, building, problem solving, lots of great books, and a ton of paint!

K-7 grade happenings at Opal Joy. So proud of these kids. So much fun! All worked hard and smart this semester!
As an instructor, really worked to establish concepts, skills & strategies that will help these students with any art exploration. Choice is important- provides ownership and an attachment to their work.
Thank you to all of my art family. Making my dreams come true!

I create most of my lessons, some are inspired by fellow art teachers and artists.

@deepspacesparkle thanks for the jellyfish inspiration. A favorite over the years and we added holographic glitter, of course! And a few ended the year with the picnic ant lesson. Winner winner chicken dinner😂 by @opaljoystudio

So many incredible moments spent with these middle & high school artists this semester!
Lots of exercises and color studies to build our art muscles- lots of choice.
Thank you all for showing up after a long school day and working so incredibly hard.

They have a washable cover and mold perfectly to any area needing help!

Can be used as a cold pack, kept in the freezer, or heated in microwave for immediate warm comfort.

I have been using these for over twenty years! I heat mine every single night to keep my toes cozy.

Also wonderful for injuries. My son in law has used on his neck/ back as a perfect cold pack and I have used on a knee injury. Great for boo-boos for my grandson’s too! Soft and comforting .

A beautiful piece one of my high school students recently finished. Still Life, Charcoal on Arches Hot Pressed Watercolor Paper
Students gathered objects from around our room to design their still life and selected two sources of colored light. Some worked in mixed media, some in charcoal. Brilliant, hard work! by @opaljoystudio

Positive & Negative Space
Students explored the three subtractive primary colors, making a heap of gorgeous colors.
We looked at several art pieces that had clearly defined positive/negative space.
I shared some simple shapes(handout in bio) and we experimented. Students then chose a shape to outline creating a very obvious contrast with black tempera paint.
