Introducing OPEN HOUSE Meetups, a new series of casual gatherings designed to keep the spirit of OPEN HOUSE Creative Fest going all year long.

Over the next year, we’ll be popping up around the South Bay to gather, get creative, and connect. Some Meetups will feature local artists and designers, some will give us a chance to learn something new together, and others will introduce you to the community spaces and small businesses that make our pocket of LA so special.

Think of them as more intimate versions of OPEN HOUSE Creative Fest: creativity as a reason to come together, discover something new, and meet the people around you.

Our first OPEN HOUSE Meetup is a Crafty Park Hang! Come spend Halloween afternoon with us at Del Thorne Park in Torrance. Bring a craft you’re working on, see what we’ve brought to share, pack a picnic, bring the kids, bring a friend, or just come hang.

Can’t make this one? Follow along to see where we meet up next!!

This weekend, something really special happened.

First, thank you!!!

To everyone who came to OPEN HOUSE, bought a Creative Passport, brought your family, told a friend, shared a post, led an activity, volunteered, or simply showed up with an open mind… thank you.

You all had to trust that this was going to be worth your time.

There wasn’t a proof of concept. There wasn’t another event I could point to and say, ā€œIt’s like this.ā€ As far as I know, nothing quite like OPEN HOUSE exists. We built a new kind of experience, one where shopping, learning, making, and connecting all happened together. Where the activities weren’t an add-on, they were the heart of the event. Where artists and small businesses weren’t just selling products, they were sharing their process, their expertise, and a little piece of themselves.

And somehow… you all got it.

Watching strangers sit down together, make things with their hands, ask questions, laugh, and leave with both new creations and new favorite local businesses was everything I’d hoped this could be.

Now the aisles are empty.

The tables are folded up. The supplies are piled high. I have two days to peel vinyl off the windows, pull tape off the floors, pack everything away, and make it look like we were never here.

It’s always funny how quickly an event disappears after so many months of dreaming, planning, building, and problem-solving.

My hope is that this isn’t goodbye to this space, just goodbye for now. I would absolutely love to bring OPEN HOUSE back here next year.

In the meantime… there are already some exciting things in the works.

This weekend proved something to me: people are hungry for places that invite them to slow down, make something with their hands, and connect with the creative people in their own community.

Thank you for believing in that vision before anyone knew if it would work.

You made the first OPEN HOUSE possible, and I have a feeling it’s only the beginning. šŸ’– by @openhousecreativefest

As a South Bay mom, I’m always on the hunt for fun local events, and OPEN HOUSE Creative Fest was such a hidden gem! šŸ¤ @openhousecreativefest

My friend Lauren transformed the former Joann Fabrics at Del Amo into the coolest creative space filled with local makers, hands-on activities, shopping, and family fun.

For $40, the girls got to make tie-dye shirts, create crafts, and explore interactive vendor booths. There was even a free craft area where they painted shells and got creative. We ended up staying for four hours—shopping local, catching up with friends, and making memories.

I’m especially proud of Lauren. After years of helping build Unique Markets, she’s now bringing her own vision to life through Flourish Locally. @flourishlocally Watching this event come together has been so inspiring.

I really hope this becomes a regular event because we’ll definitely be back! Give @openhousecreativefest and @flourishlocally a follow so you don’t miss the next one. šŸ’›

Have you been to a local event lately that you loved? Let me know—I’m always looking for more South Bay gems!

🪓 **FEATURED ACTIVITY: Mini Kokedama**

What if your houseplant didn't need a pot?

Join @calflorium for a hands-on introduction to kokedama, a Japanese style of horticulture that translates to "moss ball." Using carefully selected plants and natural materials, you'll learn how to create your own miniature kokedama to take home while discovering a simple, beautiful approach to plant care that's equal parts gardening and art.

Part of what makes OPEN HOUSE different is the chance to learn directly from the people behind the products. This workshop offers a glimpse into Anthony's passion for reimagining the way we grow and display plants, proving that everyone can develop a green thumb.

About Calflorium:

Founded by South Bay horticultural artisan Anthony Perez, Calflorium blends plant science, semi-hydroponics, and a DIY mindset to create "living art." Drawing on more than a decade of nursery experience and a degree in Plant Science from Cal Poly Pomona, Anthony transforms plants, stone, and wood into handcrafted botanical pieces that celebrate creativity, craftsmanship, and the beauty of nature.

šŸ‘¹ **FEATURED ACTIVITY: Craft Your Own Creature!**

Step into Jeromy’s fun, wonderful, and wildly imaginative world.

In this hands-on activity, participants will get a peek into Jeromy’s character-building process by creating their own set of creature heads using custom-designed stamps, ink pads, collage, and paint. Mix face doodles, painted shapes, found-object inspiration, and a little creative chaos to bring your own original characters to life.

Jeromy is an LA-based illustrator, printmaker, and tattoo artist whose work is influenced by slapstick humor, 90s and 2000s cartoon nostalgia, kitschy fashion, Halloween, and a deep love for Los Angeles. His practice embraces DIY methods, experimentation, and the magic of first ideas, from silkscreen prints and apparel to laser-cut jewelry, original artwork, and now, hand-assembled stamps.

This activity is a perfect example of what OPEN HOUSE is all about: getting inside an artist’s process, trying something playful, and creating something that could only come from your imagination.

ā™»ļø FEATURED ACTIVITY: Upcycled Denim Pocket Tote

What happens to the garments that don't make it through quality control?

At OPEN HOUSE, you'll find out, and help give them a second life.

Join Pistachio Playground for a 15–20 minute workshop where you'll transform reclaimed denim into a one-of-a-kind pocket tote. Along the way, you'll learn a little about the fashion production process and how creative reuse can keep beautiful materials out of the landfill.

As a bonus, every participant will receive a free stick-and-stitch patch to continue customizing their tote in the Activity Garden!

Meet Pistachio (Esther Chan), the designer behind Pistachio Playground, a Torrance-based studio specializing in cut-and-sew apparel, knitwear, and houseplant-inspired home goods. Through her clothing line, Pistache, Esther designs with natural materials, thoughtful construction, and playful comfort in mind.

This activity is a perfect example of what OPEN HOUSE is all about: learning directly from the people behind the products, discovering the stories behind the materials, and leaving with something handmade that's uniquely yours.
