Ready to make, listen, wonder, move, print, share, and create together? 💫 Sign-ups for this year’s Open Out Festival workshops are now open!

You can sign up for one or several workshops, no previous experience is required. All workshops take place at Tromsø Kunstforening, Mellomvegen 82, which is wheelchair accessible.

🎴 Do I need a festival pass?
Nope! You don’t need a festival pass.

🔮 Is Open Out Festival free?
YES! All our events are free and open to everyone.

🧧 Do I need to register for events?
Only for workshops! For all other events and performances, just show up and join us.

🎪 How do I register for workshops?
Sign up through the link in bio!

👀 What if the workshop I want is full?
Come anyway! If someone doesn’t show up, you may be able to take their spot. 🤞

Our festival location is Mellomvegen 82. You can walk from Tromsø city centre or take the bus.

🦇 Where can I find the Northern Lights?
September is prime time to start chasing the Northern Lights! As the nights get darker, and the sky aint cloudy, find a spot away from city lights and follow the darkness. If you’re lucky, that green glow might appear 💚

🌙✨ The Festival Program is here! 🌙✨ 
This year, we’re inviting you into Dreaming in the Dark — an exhibition and a meeting place for imagination, encounters, curiosity and other ways of being together. We can’t wait to explore the dreams that is hiding in the darkness together with you 🌌 
🖤 For the 3rd year, Tromsø Kunstforening (Mellomvegen 82) will be the home of the festival. We’re deeply grateful to return and to continue our collaboration with TKFs wonderful, generous team. 
🗝 Workshop sign-ups will open next week — more info and the link are coming soon! 
🎀 All events are free and open to everyone, and all festival activities this year will take place at Tromsø Kunstforening, except from the mountain hike! More info to come on the hike 🏔️ 
🔮 A huge thank you to the amazing artists and collaborators joining us this year and helping shape the festival. We’re so excited for yet another year of an extension of our extended family🌙✨

One month post Open Out Festival 2026, and we’re still taking in the impressions, conversations, encounters, and countless moments that stayed with us from this year’s festival ✦

After the intensity of the festival, we are allowing ourselves a small hibernation, a little time to pause, reflect, and let everything settle. To revisit the conversations, reconnect with the ideas, and take in all that was shared, seen, heard, and experienced.

And slowly, quietly, the next chapter is already beginning to take shape. We’re starting to turn our attention towards planning next year’s festival, which will mark the **10th anniversary of Open Out** ★

A decade of gathering, exchanging, experimenting, and opening out. We’re already getting EKSTREMT excited.

Stay tuned — we’re ready to celebrate with you!

Talk about an INCREDIBLE exchange 🤩 Tromsø & Ghent, a whole bunch of brilliant queer artists, an astounding final performance and exhibit, and amazing vibes throughout ✨

our thanks to everyone who helped make this reality @truenorth2026 for being an excellent European Youth Capital, @tvibit for the practical organization, @ghenteyc for finding the funds, @openoutfestival for the opportunity to flaunt our queer selves and @tromsokunstforening for the space to make it all happen 🙏 by @openoutfestival

Woah! Yesterday was a healing day!! 🖤 We started the day with a tour in the exhibition and a lil karaoke-session with students from Steinerskolen in Tromsø @dks.troms Then, a listening session that allowed us to re-connect our mind and bodies through sonic meditations and sessions in the dream machine! Upstairs, people enjoyed the sunny risograph workshop and created lots of cute prints<3 We are enjoying this last evening of Open Out so much, and hope to see you all at out closing party at @tromsokunstforening tonight! 💌 taken in Tromsø Kunstforening by @openoutfestival

Open Out aims to share our platform with other initiatives, and this year our festival is welcoming a collaborative project that you can experience at Hvilhaug this Saturday!

In line with Tromsø being the European Youth Capital of 2026, an exchange project was organised with Ghent, the European Youth Capital of 2024. Ten artists were chosen from each city for an exchange consisting of one week in Ghent and one week in Tromsø.

During this shared time, the 20 young international artists exchanged their practices, cultures, food, fascinations, worries, and dreams. From experimenting with sound engineering and fanzine-making to creating drag makeup workshops and more, they have explored how to organise their artistic practices as young queer artists in an institutionalised sector. The group has explored the city with a queer historian as their guide, laughed, cried, hiked the mountains, and been on adventures!

Together with the participating artists, we would like to invite you to their masquerade magazine launch party on the second floor of Hvilhaug this Saturday at 18:00. You are invited to witness the coming together of all their work, made during these two weeks of exchange, through which questions around safety and transformation flow. Working with 20 people for two weeks, the emphasis was on taking care of each other and making room for everyone and their needs while being creative. A warm up before the closing night of Open Out 2026!

Sharing some highlights from the Open Out-wednesday🌈 Starting the day with a collective hike up to Fløya, was just what we needed! Kvikk-lunsj, fresh air a new view and perspective<3 Thank you Romssa, for all you offer. The Thursday-program of Open Out <3 💌🌛 ooohhh. We have been looking forward to this day for so long! The exhibition is open from 12, and today part two of the mask making workshop will take place! Maybe you’ll get a sneakpeak if you are passing by the workshop space! 👀 At 14:30 you are invited to the daily 16mm-screening of Laira Rocha Tencas work. A special performance by @amsin_amsin_amsin will take place at 20.00 and lead us all into the night, which will not end, as today is the legendary Karaoke-night of Open Out!! ✨🖤⭐️🌛 taken in Tromsø Kunstforening by @openoutfestival
