found a filipino spot in melbourne that deserves more love 🇵🇭💗

📍 Busog
Shop 1/553 Barkly St, West Footscray
@busog_au

visited this popular filipino spot on a wednesday night and it was packed with people! we got to try quite a few dishes that night and everything was sooo yummy and comforting, but these were some of our favourites ⬇️🙌

we loved their papa’s crispy pork sisig, with crispy pork and so much savoury flavour in every bite 🫦 their chicken adobo was another strong contender. a filipino classic with chicken braised in soy sauce, vinegar and garlic, giving it that rich, savoury and slightly tangy flavour. so good with the fried rice we ordered 🤩

the crispy pata / pork hock came with SUPER crispy golden skin and tender meat underneath. such a satisfying dish, especially if you’re a fan of crispy pork 🤌🤌

they also have NEW spring specials on the menu! we tried the pakbet fried rice, made with stir-fried mixed vegetables and shrimp paste, as well as the pork fried rice topped with shrimp - also one of our favourites that night ✨

we also had their lomi, thick noodles served in a gravy-like egg soup (NEW). it reminded me of chinese-style comfort food, and i found it interesting that the chef-owner grew up in hong kong during his teenage years, which has influenced his way of cooking 💛

we were extremely blessed with:
♥︎ papa’s crispy pork sisig ($25.90) ⭐️
♥︎ chicken adobo ($23.90) ⭐️
♥︎ chicken pancit canton ($20.90)
♥︎ pork sinigang ($25.90) ⭐️
♥︎ crispy pork bicol express ($26.90)
♥︎ pakbet fried rice ($18.90) ⭐️
♥︎ lomi ($18.90)
♥︎ crispy pata / pork hock ($36.90) ⭐️
♥︎ halo halo ($15) ⭐️
♥︎ iced ube latte ($8)
♥︎ iced pandan latte ($8)

the mocha shio pan alone was enough to convince me to come here 🫪

📍 Batchy Coffee
672h Don Arcade, Hawthorn
@batchy_hawthorn

literally just a few steps from glenferrie station but so easy to miss 👀 batchy is run by a cute married korean couple - the wife makes all their baked goods in-house daily, while the husband is a certified professional barista who previously worked at the famous toby’s estate ☕️

we loved their NEW mocha shio pan, which reminded me so much of rotiboy / coffee buns 🫶 fluffy and buttery on the inside with that crispy coffee crust on the outside 🥵 their popular garlic shio pan was super savoury and packed with buttery garlic flavour in every layer - a must try!!!

for their speciality drinks, definitely order their chestnut cream latte or hojicha. the chestnut cream was so fragrant and nutty without being overly sweet, and paired really nicely with the hojicha ⭐️

we were very generously sent home with their cookies after the invite because we were apparently too blessed that morning 😭 we heated the raspberry cream cheese cookie up a little and it was sooo good and not overly sweet 💕

♡ chestnut cream hojicha ($9) ⭐️
♡ iced lychee cream matcha ($8.50)
♡ butter teok (2 for $6) ⭐️
♡ garlic shio pan ($6.50) ⭐️
♡ mocha shio pan ($6.50) ⭐️
♡ raspberry cream cheese cookie ($6.50)
♡ dubai cookie ($6.50)

everything under $20 at one of my new favourite indonesian spots 🇮🇩🔥

📍 Waroeng SS Spesial Sambal
398-400 Lygon St, Carlton
@waroengss.au

waroeng ss is a popular indonesian food chain known for its huge variety of sambals ✨ they have over 20 varieties of indonesian sambals starting from just $2.50, so you can mix and match depending on how much spice you can handle (but be careful, some can be rEALLY SPICY 🥵)

‼️ we heard that their $10 nasi daun jeruk is back for a limited time, so we had to get it. tbh this was actually my second time ordering it because it is genuinely so good for the price 😝 the rice is fragrant and steamed with kaffir lime leaves, then served with crispy fried chicken skin and topped with their fiery garlic chilli sambal 🤌🤌

we also got the grilled chicken thigh, gado gado, fried duck breast and crispy omelette, along with a couple of extra sambals to go with everything. overall, the food was simple, comforting and really hit the spot 💖

on our table~
★ nasi daun jeruk kulit ayam goreng (lime leaf rice with crispy fried chicken skin) ($10)
★ grilled chicken thigh ($10.50)
★ gado gado salad ($14)
★ fried duck breast ($12.50)
★ crispy omelette ($5)
★ tomato sambal ($3)
★ green chilli garlic sambal ($2.50)
★ hot ginger lemon and lemongrass ($8)
★ iced lemon tea ($5.50)

invite but self funded most of the dishes ‘cos we wanted more food 😗 #melbournefood #indonesianfood #authentic #comfortfood #cheapeats taken in Lygon Street by @oracleeats

20% off charcoal kbbq at one of carnegie’s most popular korean spots (see below!) 🔥🔥

📍 JUBANG
123 Koornang Rd, Carnegie
@jubang.au

this spot is a family-owned korean restaurant specialising in charcoal-grilled kbbq and premium cuts of meat. even though we went on a random wednesday night, the restaurant was already super packed - definitely seems like a local favourite! 🤩

we got their premium wagyu set ($99), which came with:
★ wagyu scotch fillet
★ wagyu oyster blade
★ marinated wagyu karubi
★ one soup/entree (we chose seafood tofu soup!)

the wagyu was nicely marbled and tender ✨ the marinated karubi was probably my favourite - it was really flavourful without being too overpowering and so good straight off the grill 🤌🏻

we ordered the cheese tteokbokki ($22) and hot stone bibimbap ($20). pretty classic korean dishes, they were tasty and comforting but nothing particularly special imo!

they also have these special matcha drinks which felt pretty unexpected at a kbbq restaurant 🍵 we tried the strawberry velvet matcha ($9) and cloud lychee matcha ($9). both were sooo pretty in photos but i’d probably skip these if you’re after a strong matcha drink.

‼️ they are running 20% off lunch kbbq deal from wed-sun (12pm to 2:30pm!). they also have individual non-bbq lunch sets starting from $23, which comes with rice and traditional korean side dishes (banchan)! 🤑🤑

there’s now even more reason to head into the cbd for pastries 💖

📍 Bloomwood
R00-017, Galleria
385 Bourke St, Melbourne CBD
@bloomwoodmelbourne

@bloomwoodmelbourne just opened their brand new second location in @galleria.melbourne, with a huge selection of sweet and savoury pastries (including asian-inspired ones!) 🥐

tbh i’d never tried their first location before, so this was my first time trying bloomwood and i was pleasantly surprised! they have lots of viral pastries like their salt breads and dubai chewy cookie, and both were done really well 👀

the salt bread was soft, fluffy and buttery, while their dubai chewy cookie was thiccc with a generous layer of kataifi filling and a cute strawberry in the middle 👌

had to try one of their signature flower-shaped pastries too — the apple caramel danish 🍎 made with salted butter caramel and apple compote, giving that warm, familiar apple crumble sweetness in pastry form ⭐️

♡ pastrami ($12.50)
♡ apple caramel ($11) ⭐️
♡ hk custard salt bread ($9) 🌟
♡ dubai chewy cookie ($9) ⭐️
♡ corn cheese ($10.50) 🌟
♡ truffle mushroom foccacia ($14.50)
♡ earl grey cloud oat iced matcha ($15) (large) ⭐️
♡ citrus cream brew ($11) (large)
♡ bloomtini ($4.50)

brooki bakehouse has FINALLY opened their first permanent store in south yarra, melbourne 🍪💕

📍 Brooki
574 Chapel St, South Yarra
@brookibakehouse

if you haven’t heard of brooki before, you’ve been living under a rock 😭 this viral bakery from brisbane blew up from brooki’s iconic behind-the-scenes videos as a bakery owner, and i remember seeing her ALL over my feed at some point!!! i’ve always wanted to try her cookies, so finally getting to try them fresh in melbourne felt so surreal 🥹🍪

and honestly… the fresh cookies hit DIFFERENT!!!!! they bake them fresh in store here, unlike their chaddy store where the cookies are sold pre-packaged — and i genuinely think the fresh ones taste better + feel less intensely sweet 😩😩

this is also their first permanent store in melbourne, featuring the FULL brooki menu with flavours like choc chip, red velvet, nutella, biscoff & my personal fave, bueno 🌟 they also have cupcakes, brownies & more!

open 7 days a week from 10am-10pm 💕

this is why haidilao is unlike any other hotpot spot 💌🌟

📍 Haidilao Hotpot
The Glen Shopping Centre
Level 1/235 Springvale Rd, Glen Waverley
@haidilao.glen | @theglenshopping

haidilao is so much more than just hotpot. from the incredibly attentive service to the lively atmosphere, every little detail makes the whole experience feel special 🫶🏻

while waiting for our table, we got to enjoy their signature complimentary nail service, and throughout the meal there were birthday celebrations complete with singing, dancing robots, face-changing performances, and even entertainment for kids. it honestly feels like dinner and a show all in one 💅✨

we went for the seven fungi, spicy milk, ultra-rich tomato, and three delicacy soup bases 🍲 i loved that there’s such a wide variety of broths to choose from, alongside an extensive selection of fresh meats, seafood, veggies, noodles, and hotpot ingredients 🤤🤤

if you’ve been meaning to try haidilao, i’d definitely recommend going with a group so you can order a variety of broths and ingredients to share. it’s one of those places where the whole experience is just as memorable as the food ❤️

aesthetic asian-inspired cafe in qv, melbourne cbd with a NEW $15.90 sandwich + $2 coffee combo ☕🥪

📍 AMIRI
QV Melbourne, Melbourne CBD
@amiri_melb_cafe

if you’ve ever been to @qvmelbourne, you’ve probably walked past this popular all-day asian-inspired cafe 🍵 i’ve actually been here a few times to study, and it’s such a great spot for coffee or matcha catch-ups, desserts, or just hanging out with friends in the cbd.

‼️ they’ve just launched a NEW $15.90 sandwich deal and you can add a coffee for just +$2! ☕️ we tried the mexican beef queso toastie, which was packed with rich, cheesy flavour, as well as the tuna toastie for something lighter. both were super filling and great value for the price 🤑🤑

and of course, you can’t leave without trying the drinks and desserts they’re known for 💖 the mango matcha was so refreshing with a lovely balance of fruity sweetness and matcha, while the jasmine matcha cheesecake was rich and creamy 🍰 we also gave the banana matcha brûlée a try. it was enjoyable, though we would’ve loved a stronger matcha flavour.

we ordered~
❀ mexican beef queso toastie ($15.90) ⭐️
❀ tuna toastie combo set ($18.70) ⭐️
❀ kyoto omurice ($28.90)
❀ banana matcha brulee ($12.90)
❀ egg & bacon cream cheese bun ($12.90) ⭐️
