This amazing plant blooms every year around the same time, perfect fit for the season!

It has a delightful fragrance, albeit faint (floral, with extra notes of apricots and peaches), I wish it were stronger because it's truly lovely!

The flowers are very large and quite long-lasting, usually around two months, and they always make me so happy 🥰

It's one of my favourites among all the Oncidiinae that I grow, I love everything about these blooms: the bold orange lip, beautiful barred petals and sepals, colours and patterns... it's such a stunning orchid, even prettier in person!

I switched this plant to an inorganic potting mix (rock wool cubes and perlite) about two years ago, but it didn't like it at first.
I ended up adding a top layer of sphagnum moss to make the transition smoother, which definitely seemed to help.
The plant has now adjusted to the inorganic mix and the pot is full of nice, plump roots!

☀️Grown under grow lights,

💚 Potted in a mix of rock wool and perlite, with a top layer of sphagnum moss

💧 Watered with filtered or reverse osmosis water at room temperature, I keep the potting mix slightly moist at all times

🌱 Fertilized weakly twice a month,

🚿 I flush the pot on a regular basis to prevent salts accumulation,

🌡 Daytime temperatures between 70 to 77°F / 21 to 25°C, nighttime temperatures between 65 to 68°F /18 to 20°C.

📌 Thanks a lot for this gorgeous plant @roehamptonorchids 🙂

Miltoniopsis Lillian Nakamoto

The plant initially had three flower spikes but I unfortunately broke two while repotting.
They were tiny and very fragile, I had not seen them and they snapped right away as I grabbed the pseudobulbs to try to pull the very root-bound plant out of its pot.
Seems like the plant redirected some energy into the remaining spike because the flowers are HUGE, way larger than they were on its first blooming, and also much larger than any of my other Miltoniopsis.

They are also extremely fragrant, with a strong lemony rose-like scent, or geranium essential oil.
These gorgeous flowers fill up my entire living room with their intoxicating fragrance every morning and early afternoon (they're also long-lasting, almost three months) 🙂

I really like the dark bat-shaped mask on these blooms :)
It's is a very deep shade of purple but truly looks black in person, unless backlit, in which case you can see a hint of dark burgundy as you can see here.
The crisp white base is very sparkly, like fresh snow 🙂

The plant itself is an absolute weed, very vigorous and easy to grow.

Phalaenopsis NoID

I had purchased this little plant as Phalaenopsis Yaphon Image 'Eddy' (a plant that had been on my wishlist for a very long while) so I was very excited when I received it about a year and a half ago.
Fast forward to today, and it's definitely something else.
I think it's one of those many new Lioulin crosses that are focused on producing "blue" flowers, since my little plant definitely has the cœrulea colour form (although I know that's not super obvious at first glance because the flower seems to be showing reds and pinks, but these are actually browns and "blues" that are bleeding into each other, with a pale yellow base that makes these colours appear warmer).

There's a part of disappointment that prevents me from fully appreciating it yet because I was expecting a long-time wishlist plant, but on the other hand, the colours and patterns of this little guy are quite lovely, and the flower is very flat and super symmetrical for a first bloom.

I'll give it a few more months to decide whether it's staying home or not (the lack of space is real so I'm trying to only keep orchids that are absolute favourites / top wishlist plants), I'm leaning towards yes, though, especially since it has a sweet spicy fragrance 🙂

By the way, this plant could have been mislabeled by the hybridizer from the get go (maybe even the entire flask), these things happen and most of the time it's not the seller's fault, so I'm not complaining, plus this little Phal is pretty cute 🙂

Phalaenopsis violacea indigo x sib Blue

This is my favourite Phalaenopsis species, my favourite fragrance ever, and there's no such thing as too many Phal violacea, so here's my fifth Phal violacea indigo 😆

I got this lovely plant yesterday so I have no merit at all regarding the bloom.
This flower is by far the biggest I've seen in person on a Phal violacea, all forms included 🙂

I even thought it might be Phal Samera when I spotted it (primary hybrid between violacea and bellina) but no, it's pure violacea, and the fragrance is of course absolutely amazing, very potent and delightful.
It's the typical violacea scent, with strong cinnamon, carnations and even Damask roses notes.

The flower is paler than those of my other Phal violacea indigo. I absolutely love its beautiful gradients and faint ripple patterns around the column.
I had been looking for a pale cœrulea form for a while without any success, so I couldn't resist getting this one when I saw it, although it's a bit darker than a true pale cœrulea due to the indigo parent's influence.

You can see an example of the pale form I'm referring to here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/snotch/49861635107

Below is the care I give to all my Phal violacea, although this plant is a recent acquisition :)
