Edit: A comment on a Facebook group from @denns_orchids about this one led to a rabbit hole that ultimately ended up with @orchidiane_oz clarifying that there was most certainly a flask mix up that leaves this one as a lovely NoID and not the Paph Callosum Pygmy x Vietnamese it was mistakenly tagged at from day one. Still a favourite and I love how the people who love orchids all dive in to verify the info and in such a community minded way!

And I still I love the faint blush behind the curving stripes and the pretty foliage. Even without an official name it is still a favourite!

@orchidiane_oz Oeceoclades spathulifera

This warm growing terrestrial orchid originates from Madagascar and is fairly easy to grow in home conditions, provided it receives bright filtered light (it can grow in lower light too but the patterns may not be as striking and it may grow slower) and warm enough temperatures.

For a long time, I overlooked this plant, thinking that it just looked like a bunch of dead leaves. It didn't hold any appeal to me in pictures but I decided to order one because I was curious to see if it would be the same as for jewel orchids (didn't care much for them until I got my first Ludisia discolor, then I fell in love). Of course, it was love at first sight, too, pictures don't do it justice.

The beautiful foliage has a metallic shimmer and very intricate patterns that remind me of snake skin.

I got this one from @roehamptonorchids in Canada but it can be found in orchid nurseries worldwide if you're looking for one, though it may not be the most common plant (please make sure it's not wild-collected 💚 ).

______________

☀️ Grown under grow lights (Sansi + Soltech LED bulbs) which stays on for about 12 to 14 hours per day. This plant is placed in a bright spot, almost bright Cattleya level light,

💚 This plant grows in a homemade blend of coco peat, soil, pumice, worm castings, medium grade Orchiata bark, horticultural charcoal, roughly chopped sphagnum moss and Leca,

💧 Watered with filtered water at room temperature. I keep the potting mix moist most of the time but I occasionally let it dry,

🌱 Fertilized weakly weekly with either MSU, Marphyl or Jack's all purpose (I rotate fertilizers so the plants get nutrients from various sources),

🌧 I add a tiny bit of citric acid in the water when I fertilize, to reach a pH between 5.5 and 6. This mimics the pH of rain water and helps with nutrients absorption,

🌡Daytime temperatures between 70 to 77 °F / 21 to 25°C, nighttime temperatures around 68°F / 20°C
