Latest commission found its forever home this weekend. A lovely christening gift. I was so keen to get it framed and posted in time that I forgot to take a better photo 🤦‍♀️

Well personally I think we could all benefit from seeing the reality beneath the veneer of social media so apologies this isn’t an Instagram pic but I thought it was too nice a drawing not to share! This is my current set up, stolen hours at the kitchen table while Betsy is asleep. Headphones on for focus and a audio book or podcast for company. I’ve just finished seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo and now I’m on a Michelle Obama autobiography. What’s been your summer holiday reads? What’s should I listen to next? 🎧 by @origin.bespoke

Before jetting off ✈️ I hand delivered this commission just in time for a christening. We added a bit more text to mark the special day and hopefully it will happily sit on a bedroom shelf for a few years than be put in the loft like many other christening gifts!

If you don’t know what to get someone for a special occasion you have coming up- dm me and we can have a chat about options. It’s literally how the business started! Prices start at £20 and it will be 100% unique to you. I’m not at any fairs these days so I rely on word of mouth from past customers. I’m very lucky to have some very loyal patrons and I am truly grateful for every order.

✨ INTRODUCING ✨

Yesterday I spent a glorious day curled up on the sofa with my best friends new baby. I now fully appreciate how fleeting these moments are so I made sure to soak it all in. Welcome to the world Xander.

To celebrate his arrival I created this small framed initial. Great for a nursery or christening gift

These are drawn and painted by hand so can be fully personalised to suit nursery decor and dates can be added.

There was a time when I remembered every drawing I had ever done. Life got busy in the last few years so it was a lovely surprise to discover one of my early bottle drawings in the Yorkshire cottage we stayed in this weekend. We have crammed a lot of adventures in the past 48 hours. Not sure either of us are prepared for Betsy’s last term in reception. Where does the time go? Half term complete ✅ by @origin.bespoke

Hey 👋 it’s been a while but I am still drawing behind the scenes just a lot less frequently. Here is one of my latest. My neice got her gorgeous kitten Cleo earlier this year and when she sent me the first batch of photos I knew I had to draw her. 🥰 This bundle of fluff brings so us all so much joy so when deciding what to give her for her birthday I knew this would be the purrfect gift 😻 really pleased how this one turned out. I really have no clue what’s in store for @origin.bespoke moving forwards. I’d love to do some one off classes, keep a regular flow of commissions and maybe expand into different styles in 2023 but the only thing that is certain for me right now is the present moment. So coming soon for me, is the lovely Gemma- owner of Denzel 🐶(pictured) and co founder of @cigno_coffeeshopandkitchen for a good old catch up! She’s bringing wine…happy Friday!

Side note: I am so proud of myself for actually completing a challenge. It only took 5 years of attempts!! But I finally did it. 🎉🍾🥳🙌

After every workshop I asked for feedback and this is by far my favourite comment 😂

One of my proudest moments was being featured in @jaimemagazine which is a luxury local magazine I coveted for many years before I got the opportunity to be interviewed. Many nice words were written about me back in 2019. Life has changed a lot since so this article is a lovely little time capsule of my life before. I love that I have something tangible I can show Betsy when she grows up. I hope she will be proud of her mama and understand why I had to work so much. A concept she finds quite hard at 4 🥴 by @origin.bespoke

I love drawing but my favourite part of my journey has been encouraging others to play.

My philosophy is simple. Creativity is a human core need. We do it naturally as children until the world or our internalised world view tells us we can’t. Seeing a grown adult do a happy bum wiggle at the sight of colours merging is pure joy. I do miss teaching for this reason. I never aim to teach my style, my aim is to create a safe environment for everyone to develop their own.

I get the spa music on, supply the cakes and the materials and let the magic happen. All the while giving words of encouragement and often podcast recommendations.

Who would like to see more @origin.bespoke classes in 2023? my childfree time is very limited but I could maybe introduce a couple of dates if the demand is there. My dream would be to do it as part of a wellness retreat. 😍🙏 who’s in?!?! by @origin.bespoke

Having my daughter 4 years ago flipped my world. As with all new parents it was a very steep learning curve. Finding ways to adapt my creativity around the responsibility of nurturing a tiny human has by far been my biggest challenge. A task so monumental as raising children- how do you not get swallowed up by it?

I believe in the power of creativity for mental health if nothing else. I can feel mine slip if I have been away from creative practice too long. Having a child means her needs come first, always. But to be the best parent I can be to her I know that also means I have to nurture myself along the way. To retain an identity outside of her so when she eventually becomes an adult- she can go into the world confident. I know that I need to lead by example by showing her what it means to live a healthy and fulfilling life. I want her to grow knowing that anything is possible, if you work hard. Adapting to life as a parent, particularly a single mom is hard but as with all things, the fruits of my labour are all the sweeter for the time and effort put it from day one. by @origin.bespoke
