For your Grammy Consideration: I’m very grateful to share that Mood Ellington has been submitted for consideration in three categories for the GRAMMY® Awards.

This album was an enormous undertaking and represents the work of an extraordinary group of musicians, arrangers and engineers who gave so much of themselves to this music. I’m particularly proud to see Alan Broadbent’s arrangement of “A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing” and Mat Lejeune's engineering included for consideration alongside the album. Thank you to @origin_records for being so great to collaborate with.

To my fellow Recording Academy voting members, thank you for listening and for your consideration.

𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗗 𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗚𝗜𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗘, MAS ALTO
https://originarts.com/oa2/recordings/recording.php?TitleID=22258 (link in bio)

“𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘹 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘰, 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘩, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘺.” 𝗧𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝘂𝗹𝗹, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲

Stripping the music to its essentials, saxophonist Todd DelGiudice explores the remarkable freedom and intimacy of the saxophone trio on this program of compelling originals and modern jazz standards. The title, ‘Mas Alto,’ carries a playful double meaning, “higher” in Spanish, reflecting DelGiudice’s continual pursuit of artistic growth, and “more alto,” a fitting celebration of the instrument’s lyrical power in a format more often dominated by tenor saxophonists. With longtime musical partner Jon Hamar on bass, in two trios with the masterful drummers Obed Calvaire and Jim White, DelGiudice draws on the enduring legacy of Sonny Rollins, Lee Konitz, and Kenny Garrett while speaking with a voice that is his own. Inspired, conversational, and richly melodic, ‘Mas Alto’ is a deeply engaging statement from an artist whose command and love of the tradition leads him continually to fresh and spontaneous musical discoveries.

𝗠𝗜𝗞𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗔 𝗝𝗔𝗭𝗭 𝗢𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗔, FARTHER (STILL)
https://originarts.com/recordings/recording.php?TitleID=82959 (link in bio)

“…𝘢 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘯’𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘯, 𝘢 𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘨𝘦𝘮, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘫𝘢𝘻𝘻 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘪𝘬𝘦’𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.” 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗲

After decades as a guitarist, educator, and one of the West Coast’s most respected composers and arrangers, Mike Dana unveils the fullest expression of his musical vision with ‘Farther (still)’. It being the first time he’s presented his own vision in this way, he brought together a remarkable collection of musicians and an all-star cast of soloists, including Bob Mintzer, Ingrid Jensen, Eric Marienthal, Tim Ries, Wayne Bergeron, and Aaron Janik, to explore seven expansive original compositions alongside fresh arrangements of two standards. Balancing rich orchestral colors, memorable melodies and inspired improvisation, Dana’s musical voice is at once sophisticated and deeply expressive. While echoing the influence of the great contemporary jazz composers, ‘Farther (still)’ speaks with a distinctive voice, one shaped by a lifetime of performing, composing, and imagining new possibilities for the modern jazz orchestra, always reaching still farther.

New release out now from Origin Records!
𝗝𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗦 𝗦𝗜𝗘𝗚𝗘𝗟, THE ART OF VOCALESE
https://originarts.com/recordings/recording.php?TitleID=82958 (link in bio)

“…𝘢 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘷𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘫𝘢𝘻𝘻.” 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 (𝟱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀)

Few artists have done more to shape the modern language of vocal jazz than Janis Siegel. With her five remarkable decades with The Manhattan Transfer and the relationships with all the greats who defined the art, it only makes sense that her newest work would carry the title, ‘The Art of Vocalese.’ More than a celebration of the uniquely demanding jazz tradition, the album is both a tribute to her mentor, Jon Hendricks, and a reflection on a lifetime devoted to inspired storytelling, beautiful vocal harmonies and joyous music-making. Joined by pianist/arranger John Di Martino, an exceptional band, and featured guests Raul Midón, Lea DeLaria, Laurel Massé, and Lauren Kinhan, Siegel presents an elegant, joyful and richly expressive set of music, topped with the unveiling of several previously unrecorded Hendricks lyrics. ‘The Art of Vocalese’ is the next step in this master artist’s life that further defines her extraordinary career while carrying one of jazz’s most exciting traditions forward.

Celebrating those who provided years of mentorship, along with the ongoing momentum through the arrival of this debut recording, trombonist Andrew Kim offers a result that is so much more than a senior capstone project. 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘨𝘦 is a formidable album, a testament to Kim’s embrace and diligent immersion in the tradition under the guidance of master musicians Michael Dease (the producer here) and lately, Marshall Gilkes, displaying a clear sign that he’s poised to benefit this legacy through his own innovative contributions. Along with saxophonist Sharel Cassity, pianist Xavier Davis, bassist Rodney Whitaker and drummer Ulysses Owens Jr., Kim’s arrangements of classics by J.J. Johnson & Curtis Fuller, along with five of his own compositions, the band bristles and swings from the outset. “𝘈𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘸 𝘒𝘪𝘮 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘫𝘢𝘻𝘻.
