It's wild that it's already been 3 months since the @pancelticraceseries wound its way around Éire in the scorching summer heat. With the race film now out, I've been prompted to reflect back on what was an unusual PCR for me...

Despite having a crack for the first 300km or so, I simply wasn't in a position to race this year's event as I normally would, in fact I very almost didn't even make the start line, let alone the finish. As bitterly disappointing as that was, I have to say my experience during the event has to be one of my favourite and most memorable.

I'll do a full recap with my photography to dive into the specifics another time, but for now thanks to @arielwojciechowski_com & @stillsbyceri for these beautiful shots 📸

National 10mile TT up near Doncaster, I went with the intention of a podium in the road bikes category. Which, I knew would a hard target. But, I actually won it. 🙌 with a time of 20:58, second place 21:28. There was a unexpected and bitter sweet win on the age category also! Unfortunately for @aduggleby he was DQ after a complaint from someone. I don’t at all think he would ever have done anything wrong. I am however happy to take home the medal, especially after there isn’t one for the road bikes category which isn’t very good. When there is a road bikes category which! @cyclingtimetrials really need to sort that out! I know there is a road bikes category national, but why have a category, and no award!? Set a target, achieved a target. Since last years disappointing performance of 3rd I wanted to win this, this year. This years race was Near Windsor. Never raced around there. I drove the course before the race and it was busy, narrow and twisty. It didn’t really fill me with confidence for safety, or a fair fight. Got all the warm up done, rolled to the start. The first few mile was fast, slight down with a head wind, after a couple of mile, first issue. Van over takes, instantly turns right so squeezed between him and the curb, luckily I have narrow bars. Quite soon I started to see other riders on their second lap, after 4mile I got stuck behind a car who was stuck behind my minute man! I spent ages try to pass, a good 30seconds going slow. Soon after again caught another rider with a car behind them. Then make a silly mistake of trying to push harder to make up for the lost time. Blew a bit. Second lap, the hot weather, 30° started to bite, along with the wind. But tried my best to keep smooth, and hold a strong power. I’d caught 3 of my category so wasn’t sure how the others had done. Rolled back to the HQ to see if won 🥇 very happy with that. This weekend was one of those mythical days for a time trial. Light winds and warm. I don’t enter many open events these days, this was only my 3rd TT this year, the others being evening club 10s. I wanted to have a crack on a faster course and see how fast I could go. Most of last week I felt tired, and a bit below how I’d want to feel so I wasn’t too sure how well this would go. Even on the morning, during warm up i wasn’t too sure. But as soon as the 3-2-1 go count down hit I know instantly I felt decent! For a while a while I was think I must have a tail wind out, and at the turn it felt the same. With a couple of mile to go I know sub 20 was possible. It was! 19:58! Which won the road bike category and 7th overall. That’s only 8 seconds off my lifetime best.
