A quick recap of the recently held Regional Ocean Conservation Youth Workshop convened from July 22-24, 2026 in Kingston, Jamaica 🇯🇲

We were happy to welcome youth from across the region who championed Ocean Conservation. The workshop was designed to continue building capacity and develop our young peoples understanding of the Caribbean Sea and human activities that continue to degrade the marine environment and coastal ecosystems.

Following the 1st Caribbean Youth Environment and Climate Change Conference which adopted the Caribbean Youth Declaration on Environment and Climate Justice, the Caribbean Youth Climate Council continue to take the approach to mobilize our region and strengthen our movements through Policy, Action and community building.

Over the next few months we intend to launch the Emerging Oceans Leaders Programme and continue consultations on the Caribbean Youth Resilience Fund.

Thank you to our supporters for making this convening possible. Until next time #DefendOurOcean

The Caribbean's future depends on the health of its ocean. From fisheries and tourism to food security, livelihoods, and climate resilience, our marine ecosystems sustain the region's economies and communities. Yet these ecosystems face growing threats from climate change, plastic pollution, coral reef degradation, sargassum influx, overfishing, and emerging pressures such as deep seabed mining.

To help address these challenges, the Caribbean Youth Climate Council (CYCC) in partnership with Ocean Science and Governance Youth Network and Youth Action Co:Lab are organizing the Regional Ocean Conservation Youth Workshop, which will take place from July 22–25, 2026, in Kingston, Jamaica under the theme "Championing a Sustainable Blue Economy for a Resilient Caribbean."

Building on momentum generated through the inaugural Caribbean Youth Environment and Climate Change Conference in 2025, this workshop will bring together 30 young leaders, advocates, and practitioners from across the Caribbean to strengthen their knowledge of ocean governance, marine conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable blue economy solutions.

🌊 The Ocean is Calling… Are We Listening?🦈

Sharks are the ocean’s bio-sentinels. When they’re in trouble it’s a warning for all of us. Chemicals traveling miles, rising temperatures, and toxins are pushing our waters to a crisis.

Humans feel it too. Ocean Health = Human Health. 💙

In PNG communities travel hours just to test water. Knowledge shouldn’t be a luxury. It’s a right. ✊

The ocean shapes our climate, food systems, livelihoods, and futures - no matter where we live. And the high seas, which make up nearly half of the planet, belong to all of us.

As the High Seas Treaty (BBNJ Agreement) enters into force in 2026, decisions about the ocean are being made now, and young people have a real stake in how the high seas are protected and governed.

Join the High Seas Alliance and our partners for the first Let’s Talk BBNJ Youth Series Webinar - an entry-level webinar exploring why the ocean matters and why youth advocacy is critical to shaping the future of the global ocean commons.
