What do you get when you bring together a local school, community leaders and @oskarwitha.k?

Answer: Hope for Cheetham, a new mural transforming an overlooked corner in Manchester into an inspiring landmark. The mural is inspired by a local youth charity of the same name.

This is Art for Estates, a collaboration with @lloydsbankingroup and @globalstreetart. A community-led initiative that brings bold, large-scale art to the heart of social housing estates.

It’s part of Lloyds Banking Group’s overall commitment to the UK’s social housing sector, where they’ve provided over £22 billion in new finance* to the sector since 2018.

*Through commercial lending and deal facilitation

What an incredibly wholesome project with @countycommunitytrust @peoplewithgrit & Ruth Awolola from @thewritingsquadofficial for @stockporttownofculture 🎉

Special thanks to the fab young people who took part, the Olive Branch for all the coffee and pastries, Richard from the council for helping with the MEWP, the lovely folks at the Barracks who stored our crappy scissor lift, and Phil who turned down a billboard on this location and said yes to us instead!

Finally a big thanks to the people of Edgeley for welcoming me with open arms, I can’t wait to come back 🙏 by @oskarwitha.k

How do people become muralists? And is it a career worth pursuing?

One of many insights shared by Oskar (@oskarwitha.k) at our In Conversation last month 🧑‍🎨

Tomorrow (Tues 20th) we’ll be returning to SEESAW on Princess Street for an In Conversation with Cordi Ashwell, Director of DECORDIA (@decordiaevents), a creative production studio that creates immersive sets for live experiences and festivals – including Boardmasters, Parklife and Wilderness.

We’ll be talking with Cordi about the importance of collaboration, community, storytelling and sustainability. Feel free to stick around after for a drink and a chat 🍹

Every artist’s dilemma: How much do I charge for my work?

As Oskar (@oskarwitha.k) says, reference points for pricing can be vague. But opening up conversations with other artists and researching the rates of relevant professions can give us somewhere to start 💭

Thank you Oskar for a brilliant conversation 😁🎨

Our next In Conversation will be with Cordi Ashwell – Director of DECORDIA (@decordiaevents) – on Tues 20th October at SeeSaw (@seesawspace) on Princess Street.

Womb to the Tomb. 47 x 44.5cm on ply. Acrylic and oil pastel 🖍️

I think I heard ‘from the womb to the tomb’ on a podcast somewhere and thought it hit hard as a statement about how life is fleeting.

More from this orange and teal floral series I’m on atm 🧡🩵 by @oskarwitha.k

The first unpaid mural since my son was born a year ago. Really exploring the messages, textures and techniques that move me is a liberating experience.

This work is capturing what’s underneath so much of what I make, and putting it out in the open. Being led by validation is an anxious experience, constantly putting my sense of worth in others hands leaves me exposed. It also makes experimenting with my work feel very risky, as one bad comment (or worse, no comments) can result in my self esteem plummeting.

It’s an intention to trust my gut when I feel like I’m on to something, even if the feedback isn’t what I’d hoped for 🧡

Who else wants to be special? ✨ by @oskarwitha.k

8 weeks of making things.

I’m always a little apprehensive to meet a new cohort of young people, but by the time these photos were taken on week 8, we were all totally at ease and having fun.

In the eight weeks we’d upcycled spray cans, emptied spray cans, studied caps, made stencils, sprayed tote bags, used VR, and generally made a lot of mess.

Thanks to @homemcr and @mosssidepowerhouse (especially Carlos!) for getting me on board, it’s been a fantastic process. Thanks to Tianah, Kamora, Balaji, Miguel, Kevim, Hannah and Morgan for being so dedicated and showing up each week. Thanks to @tinaramosekongoart for supporting, and @fionafinchett for these wonderful photographs 📸

Looking forward to sharing the final wall with ya’ll! by @oskarwitha.k
