Yep, a couple days ago you may have noticed our IG story of our beloved charter boat Saturday Pants making her way out of Pender Harbour for the last time on her way to her new owners. We have been planning for a while on making some big directional changes with our charter business, and while the timing of this sale wasn’t ideal for the 2026 summer fishing season, we decided to take the offer on hand and jump right into the transition.
Our new boat is being assembled as we speak and while we don’t have an exact timeline (these builds have a tendency to take on a life of their own) we DO intend to have some fishing charters on offer for this summer. Here’s the other half of our news though…our new boat is a very different beast. We are building this boat with two primary operating principles: long distance efficiency, and offshore capability. We are radically changing our charter business from a largely Sunshine Coast-based salmon fishing charter, to an expedition-style fishing venture. We are intending on taking our guests to new and further reaching waters, including relocating our boat and business for the short but exciting BC tuna fishery season. We are still planning on offering some Pender Harbour salmon fishing opportunities up until late August each year, but we will be limiting trips to half-day charters due to the open nature of the new boat and the lack of toilet, cabin protection, etc…As a result, AND GET THIS!!; we will actually be LOWERING prices for half-day salmon trips. That’s not something you hear a lot in this era of inflation and increased operating costs. But we feel like there is a real market for an affordable and fun way to get on the water and put fish in the freezer.
This is a really exciting new direction for OTB…almost a whole new business concept. It will be a unique charter offering for sport fishing in British Columbia, and we see that as a really cool opportunity for us and our clients. We are setting ourselves up to fish where and how we want to fish. We want to go further.
