Rider Spotlight // Meet Maddie Torres

At just 14 years old, Maddie Torres of Vail, Arizona, is already making a name for herself in the gravel racing scene.

Maddie’s cycling journey began on the mountain bike trails, racing in the ACA and MBAA series before taking on a new challenge and transitioning to gravel racing two years ago. It didn’t take long for her talent to shine. In her first season of gravel racing, Maddie captured the Under-29 Arizona Gravel Series Championship. This year, she’s continued her impressive rise, earning the BWR Quad-Tripel Crown in the 18U division and recently finishing 3rd in the 18U category on the demanding 108-mile Black Course at SBT GRVL.

But for Maddie, racing is about more than results.

One event she’s especially excited to return to is Village Gravel.

“Village Gravel has everything I love about this sport. The scenery is beautiful, the atmosphere is so welcoming, and there are always fun events that bring everyone together. It’s one of those races that reminds me why I love gravel racing, and I can’t wait to be back on the start line.”

While she loves the competition, it’s the adventure, friendships, and community that keep her coming back. Maddie embodies everything that’s great about gravel racing—pushing her limits while embracing the people and experiences that make the sport so special.

We’re excited to welcome Maddie back to Flagstaff this August and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes on race day. by @maddventures16

#roots! 26 years in the making. The BigRig DH that my dad and I designed, lurks in the background of the new-new. In 1999 after a local shop wouldn’t help us out, we decided to build our own race bike. Dad’s fabricating prowess and my moto experience brought the dream to reality. But life had different plans for us, and SBW was short lived.
The BigRigDH turned to smoldering ashes and a distant memory of what might have been.
After Dad’s passing in 2020, that fire was rekindled and we jumped back in head first to build cool bikes that bring smiles and good times for all. Since today marks 5 years of Dad gone, it’s a perfect time to honor him with sharing The BigJimDH with everybody. It’s 200mm of smiles and good times. We hope you like it! by @maddventures16
