The Ahmaud Theme occurs throughout the piece, “Running From, Running To: A Musical Reflection on Ahmaud Arbery”. 🎼

Much like Bach embedded his own name as a motif in his compositions, @alexanderlblake did the same for the eight-movement work honoring the life of Ahmaud Arbery!

In the first movement, “Who Was Ahmaud?”, the cello is heard in the exposition of the piece, spelling out Ahmaud’s name. 🎻

The choir joins in after a stunning introduction by the orchestra, outlining the Ahmaud theme.

The note names directly correlate to his name 📝:

A - A
H - B natural (as Bach used)
M - E (solfège letter Mi)
A - A
U - C (solfège letter Ut)
D - D

Songs of Remembering features Tonality and Wild Up with Angel Blue, Jamal M. Moore, and Ogi. The centerpiece, Running From, Running To, honors Ahmaud Arbery, a young Black man whose 2020 killing while jogging sparked national outcry. With new arrangements of Poor Wayfaring Stranger and the world-premiere recording of Deep River, the album calls for justice, healing, and resilience through song.
