Outer Cinema Cincinnati returns to the Esquire Theatre on Wednesday, November 11th, for a special screening of the new 4k restoration of Rufus B. Seder’s low budget cult oddity SCREAMPLAY! Shot for $50,000 on 16mm in the early 80’s, utilizing handcrafted sets, matte paintings, and plenty of other Old Hollywood tricks, SCREAMPLAY is a fascinating and ambitious piece of independent filmmaking, with a unique mix of sinister atmosphere (inspired by silent cinema and Val Lewton-style shockers) and bizarre comedy, with a memorable villainous performance by underground film legend George Kuchar! Outer Cinema is proud to bring the new restoration and remaster by Muscle Distribution of SCREAMPLAY to Cincinnati for the first time ever! Tickets on sale NOW in the link in our bio! TAKES HOLLYWOOD BY THE THROAT AND STRANGLES IT!! @muscledistribution @esquiretheatre by @outercinemacincinnati
Tonight, Devil’s Night, the Esquire Theatre begins its week long run of Ken Russell’s THE DEVILS - the director’s cut, restored and remastered. Additional screenings listed in the same link, including tomorrow, Halloween evening. TONIGHT!! The Outer Cinema Cincinnati Halloween Spectacular featuring TALES FROM THE CRYPT: DEMON KNIGHT!! Video market from @graveyardnostalgia and music video preshow at 7pm! Movie at 7:30pm! DON’T MISS IT, BOILS AND GHOULS 🎃 by @outercinemacincinnati
The 1995 trailer for TALES FROM THE CRYPT: DEMON KNIGHT, screening next Wednesday, October 28th, as a part of Outer Cinema Cincinnati’s Halloween Spectacular at the Esquire Theatre! Initially a stand-alone script that floated throughout Hollywood since 1987, DEMON KNIGHT was finally optioned by Universal Pictures in 1994 to be the first feature length film adaptation in the very popular TALES FROM THE CRYPT HBO series, with the series host the Crypt Keeper appearing in the bookends of the film. Helmed by director Ernest Dickerson (award winning cinematographer of DO THE RIGHT THING), featuring an absolutely loaded cast of familiar character actors (Billy Zane, William Sadler, Jada Pinkett, Dick Miller, Thomas Haden Church, C.C.H. Pounder and Gary Farmer), and a VERY 1990’s soundtrack (Pantera, Ministry, Sepultura, Melvins, Filter, Gravediggaz), DEMON KNIGHT is a diamond in the rough of 90’s major studio horror films. Inventive, frightening, surprising, action-packed and featuring top notch special effects, DEMON KNIGHT is a major personal favorite that Outer Cinema is proud to bring back to the Esquire Theatre this Halloween season! Tickets for TALES FROM THE CRYPT: DEMON KNIGHT are available RIGHT NOW in the link in our bio! Don’t miss out, boils and ghouls!! by @outercinemacincinnati

“Butthole Surfers are my measure of how out there it can get. (Basically, if it’s not as weird as the Butthole Surfers, it isn’t that weird.) They were Edge City, loaded with a potential for total gonzo. Those nights when they lit firecrackers onstage, and the simmering of total chaos became kinetic energy of total chaos, things would happen. They’d set their equipment on fire. The naked dancer who sometimes toured with them shit onstage. In Michael Azerrad’s chronicle of 1980s indie and underground music, Our Band Could Be Your Life, there is a description of Haynes filling a wiffle bat full of urine and swinging it over the crowd, blessing them. Butthole Surfers fans will not find this strange. When King Coffey was asked in 1984 if they tried to be deliberately outrageous, he said with tongue not necessarily in cheek, ‘I think the word is literally outrageous; we’re a reflection of a deliberately outrageous society.’” - David Kunian, Oxford American We’re ONE WEEK away from our screening of BUTTHOLE SURFERS: THE HOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUTT at the Esquire Theatre!!
