Celebrate Black History Month at CasildART with an evening with the authors of Carnival of Resistance

Celebrate Black History Month with Carnival of Resistance authors and visual activists, Wayne Campbell and Wayne Crichlow.

Carnival of Resistance is a powerful visual testament documenting Notting Hill Carnival as a site of culture and joy. In this in-depth conversation, they’ll share the stories behind the images, talk about documenting Carnival from the inside, and reflect on why resistance remains central to Black cultural life in Britain today.

This free event is open to all, but spaces are limited, so booking is essential. Carnival of Resistance and selected merchandise will be available for purchase. Check link in my bio for tickets. #carnivalofresistance #visualactivism #streetphotography taken in Casildart Contemporary by @outlawd98

The Red City is one to visit more than once. Marrakech is a city of colour, light and shadows a juxtaposition of modernity and the past.

My favourite photos

#photography #Marrakech #Marrakesh

The lovely woman in blue walking past was a happy coincidence.

Walking on foot. Riding a buggy. The taxi driving by. All in one shot.

The sun creates the most beautiful art

The tiniest window

The rug looks like an ornamental accessory

The detail makes me want to learn more about the artisans

Every corner feels special

Obsessed with these windows

It’s illegal to cut down the palm trees in Marrakech. I love the idea of building around rather than through.

You’ll find Majorelle Blue everywhere

May no one ever say that your food is “unhindered, unencumbered by the redundancy of seasoning”

Zack Fox, I love you

An explosion of colour

Get you a rug dealer

Blink and you’ll miss it. I’ll always find the street art in every city I visit.

The sun is the main character

I love that the texture from the field looks to be replicated in the nylon of the hot air balloon taken in Marrakech, Morocco by @outlawd98

My favourite moments from Notting Hill Carnival 2026.

I joined a photo walk with @ukbftog, alongside over 50 other Black women photographers and the talent in this group is extraordinary. That’s probably why it took me so long to post these - I’ve been too busy admiring their work and feeling motivated by these women.

A gentle reminder to surround yourself with people who inspire you.

Here are some more of the pictures I captured at this year's Notting Hill Carnival. Feels like as I'm getting older, this carnival is getting better. #carnaval #acelebrationofdemonstration #carnivalofresistance #brixton #canonphotography taken in Notting Hill Carnival by @outlawd98

I’m going to be honest. Market Row yesterday was incredible. Not only did Brian Lara, the incredible Trinidadian cricketer, pass by, but we also had Godfrey the comedian. He came in, looked around, left a message on the wall, and really seemed to be enjoying the energy in Brixton’s Market Row. It was my absolute pleasure inviting him into my gallery, and talking with him about the work I do. Really looking forward to seeing you again, Godfrey. Stay blessed, brother. #acelebrationofdemonstration #brixtonvillage #carnivalofresistance #canonphotography #therow taken in Brixton Village by @outlawd98

In my humble opinion one of the greatest batsmen of all time, Brian Lara took the time to came into A Celebration of Demonstration yesterday. It was my absolute honour to present him with a copy of our latest book, Carnival of Resistance, and talk to him about the Notting Hill Carnival and his own carnival in Trinidad. Thank you so much for taking the time, Brian, and I hope you find a suitable home for this amazing book back in Trinidad. #acelebrationofdemonstration #carnivalofresistence #brianlara taken in Brixton Village by @outlawd98

With everything that has been happening with the launch of our book Carnival of Resistance, I finally managed to put together a selection of pictures I took over this carnival weekend, I have to say, I really thought this Carnival weekend was incredible. I hope that can be reflected in some of the shots I captured. Maybe they will form part of our new book, who knows. Enjoy. #carnivalofresistance #carnival #carnival60 #nottinghillcarnival taken in Notting Hill Carnival by @outlawd98

A huge thank you to everyone who came down to our launch events and to everyone who stopped by yesterday. The conversations, the reactions to the work and the support for Carnival of Resistance have been incredible. 🙏🏾

I’m heading back to Brixton now and should be at the pop-up gallery in about an hour.

So if you’re around Brixton this afternoon, come and find me at A Celebration of Demonstration, The Row, Brixton Village, London SW9 8LF.

Come in, take your time with the exhibition, have a conversation about the photographs, Carnival, resistance, culture — or just photography. I’ll be there and would love to meet you.

📕 Carnival of Resistance is also available to buy in person at A Celebration of Demonstration, or you can order your copy via the link in my bio.

See you in Brixton.

From screen to print.

Watching Jama and Reflections being printed at Photofusion in Brixton — two images that will soon be hanging just around the corner as part of our Carnival of Resistance exhibition.

There’s always something different about seeing a photograph become a physical print. The scale, the detail, the texture — suddenly it becomes something you can stand in front of and experience.

We’re getting very close now.

Carnival of Resistance

📍 The Row, Brixton Village, London SW9 8LF
📅 20–31 August 2026

Opening on 20 August alongside our book launch.
Come and see the work on the walls.

Words from the Deck.

Sometimes a photograph stays with you for reasons that go beyond what you first saw through the viewfinder.

In this episode I talk about one of those images — a quiet moment amongst the noise, colour and energy of Notting Hill Carnival. A photograph that, for me, says something about family, connection, culture and the generations that continue to carry Carnival forward.

That's one of the things I've always loved about photographing Carnival. Look beyond the spectacle and there are hundreds of smaller stories happening all around you.

This is one of them.

And I want Words from the Deck to become a conversation, not just me talking at the camera. So if the photograph or anything I've said sparks a thought, memory or question, leave it in the comments. I'll pick a few and respond to them in the next episode.

The photograph also features in Carnival of Resistance, the book Wayne Campbell and I have created from our years documenting Carnival from the inside.

We're getting very close now to our two launch events at The Row, Brixton Village, London SW9 8LF — 20 & 22 August.

Details and booking via the link in my bio.

Hardly seen. Always noticed.
