Celebrate Black History Month with Carnival of Resistance authors and visual activists, Wayne Campbell and Wayne Crichlow.

Carnival of Resistance is a powerful visual testament documenting Notting Hill Carnival as a site of culture and joy. In this in-depth conversation, they’ll share the stories behind the images, talk about documenting Carnival from the inside, and reflect on why resistance remains central to Black cultural life in Britain today.

I’m going to be honest. Market Row yesterday was incredible. Not only did Brian Lara, the incredible Trinidadian cricketer, pass by, but we also had Godfrey the comedian. He came in, looked around, left a message on the wall, and really seemed to be enjoying the energy in Brixton’s Market Row. It was my absolute pleasure inviting him into my gallery, and talking with him about the work I do. Really looking forward to seeing you again, Godfrey. With everything that has been happening with the launch of our book Carnival of Resistance, I finally managed to put together a selection of pictures I took over this carnival weekend, I have to say, I really thought this Carnival weekend was incredible. Last Tuesday, the images finally came down.

After an incredible few weeks, Wayne and I de-installed our *Carnival of Resistance* pop-up exhibition — bringing to a close a special chapter in the journey of this book.

From putting the first prints on the walls to taking them down, the space became so much more than an exhibition. It became a meeting place for conversations, memories, stories, laughter and a shared love of Carnival and the culture that surrounds it.

We watched people stop and study the photographs, recognise people and places, share their own Carnival memories and leave carrying a copy of the book.

To everyone who came through the doors, bought a book or print, attended one of our events, shared a post, interviewed us, featured the work or simply told somebody else about it — **thank you.**

And while the pop-up has ended, the story continues. Some of these images can still be seen at *A Celebration of Demonstration*, **22A Market Row, Brixton Village**, where you can also pick up a copy of the book from Wayne’s shop.

50 BLACK FEMALE PHOTOGRAPHERS. ONE CARNIVAL. ONE COMMUNITY. 🥹📸💛

We had 50 Black female photographers join us for our annual @nhcarnivalldn Photowalk, and honestly… what a beautiful day it was. 🥹

Watching everyone connect, encourage one another, share tips, help each other with their cameras and navigate the crowds together was so special.

And then we found out that we even had women who travelled internationally to join us! 😭🌍📸

But do you know what’s been even more beautiful?

The group chat. 🥹

Everyone sharing their experiences, encouraging one another, exchanging photographs and celebrating the moments they captured.

Because this is so much more than a photowalk.

It’s a safe space.
It’s sisterhood.
It’s connection.
It’s community. 💛

And to every single photographer who came out, picked up their camera and captured Carnival through their own eyes — we are SO proud of you.

Earlier this week, we hosted our latest Creative Visionaries event with Hypha Studios inside one of London's most distinctive postmodern landmarks, No. 1 Poultry.

Currently undergoing refurbishment by @johnrobertsonarchitects , James Stirling's building was the perfect setting for a conversation about space, culture, art and community.

The evening brought together voices from across development, architecture and the arts. @willjennings80 of @recessed.space , @ben___cross from MORE, and Nathalie Bergvall and Kuros Sarshar from John Robertson Architects explored how civic spaces can become more accessible, culturally active. @julian_mcintosh_ McIntosh spoke on cultural space and deeper connection through exchange, while Senan Seaton Kelly shared how planning can rethink culturally rich spaces.

Special guest @curatingmoments joined, with @dreph_ and @vibrantformcollective brought unmistakable creative energy to the room through a beautiful back drop of art within the space and discourse around displaying a creating work for unusual high street spaces all brought together in a thought-provoking panel moderated by @ann_storr

What stood out wasn't the range of perspectives alone it was the shared belief that culture has a role to play in how we design, develop and activate our cities.

Creative Visionaries is about creating space for those conversations. And this is just the beginning more events and collaborations to come.
