Reimagining hospitality with AI starts before check-in. Mike Flaskey, President and COO of Marriott Vacations Worldwide, sees digital workers learning each owner's preferences ahead of arrival, down to what goes in the refrigerator, so everything is ready the moment a family walks in.

Across 120 resorts and 700,000 owner families, his vision is simple. Technology handles the preparation. People handle the welcome home.

"You already have all of that ready to go... And they walk in there and go, 'This is next level.'"

Every student who enrolls at Dallas College gets an email and a transit pass. Chancellor Justin Lonon is testing a third thing: their own personalized AI agent, built with the students who will use it.

This year, personal AI agents went mainstream. Instinct and Meta’s Muse can now call businesses for you. @meta @muse

Soon every student will have two assistants. One is personal and knows their calendar, their inbox, and their family. The other comes from their school and knows their record, their deadlines, and the advisor who should step in next. The student’s agent won’t replace the school’s. It will talk to it. That starts in 2027.

Caring is the input. Performance is the output.

"Time is the one thing they don't have."

University of Phoenix serves more than 80,000 working adults. Most are in their mid to late 30s, working full time and raising families while they earn their degrees.

On the new episode of The New Normal, COO Raghu Krishnaiah shows how a decade of AI gives those students their time back: risk models that catch struggles early, support teams with answers in seconds, and a culture that tests in weeks instead of months.

His message for leaders still on the sidelines is direct:

Awareness comes first, because without it, this becomes a do or die moment.

The concept of labor is changing faster than it has at any time in American history.

On the new episode of The New Normal, Ruben Harris sits down with Taylor Stockton, Chief Innovation Officer for the US Department of Labor. The show's first guest from inside the federal government.

Inside the episode:

Why every technology wave in history expanded the pie instead of shrinking it

The blue collar jobs powering America's AI buildout, no four year degree required

Make America AI Ready, the free AI course that runs entirely over text message. More than 100,000 Americans are already in.

Text READY to 20202 to take the first step.

"Time is the enemy of the poor."

Episode 7 of The New Normal is live with Dr. Gregory Fowler, President of University of Maryland Global Campus. @umdglobalcampus @umgcpresident

UMGC started in 1947 with faculty flying to postwar Europe to teach American service members. Today it serves 100,000+ students on all seven continents, including Antarctica, and the sun never sets on it.

In this episode: Project Sherpa, a personal assistant that climbs the mountain with every student. Project Doppler, forecasting student success the way meteorologists forecast weather. Agent 360, which starts every coach's morning with the five students to call first. Military Rank for Credit, translating service into academic credit. And the discipline behind it all: do three things, not twenty.

President Lisa Marsh Ryerson leads one of the largest universities in the nation. 225,000 learners today. More than 300,000 a year. And she is always looking for ways to serve learners better, because millions more need learning across their lifetimes.

Episode 6 of The New Normal goes inside @snhu 's AI strategy: Speed to Lead, warm handoffs from agent to human, an Iron Man suit for every advisor, and the six week AI boot camp she ran for her own executive team before asking anyone else to change.

Mark Milliron says graduate professors have been using AI for hundreds of years. Their agents were called grad students.

The professor sets the vision. The team does the research. The professor refines, opens doors, and shapes the message. Everyone learns. The work gets published.

That is the agentic workflow, and academia invented it long before the technology existed.

Now the game changes. Grad students plus AI. Collective intelligence.

"My competitors aren't institutions. My competition's poverty."
Episode 5 of The New Normal is live with Dr. Mark Milliron, President of National University. NU serves 130,000 learners a year. Almost all of them work. Half are parents. NU calls them Anders, because they refuse to choose between their ands.
In this episode: the Wingman initiative putting an AI partner next to every employee and student, the four rings that replace a chief AI officer, RAISE5, and the story of a professor who threw his computer out a window and later opened his email for the first time to save one student's degree. taken in San Diego, California by @outrivalai

Universities have always done proactive outreach with humans. Recruiters. Counselors. Call centers. Almost none do it with AI agents.

Chancellor David Andrews of UMass Global draws that line in Episode 4 of The New Normal. Reactive AI answers when someone shows up. Proactive AI reaches out first. It understands who students are, what they need, and predicts what will improve their chances of success.

At UMass Global, roughly 60% of proactive efforts are fully engaged with AI or actively exploring it, from marketing to enrollment, admissions, and scheduling, all the way into the student experience.

The gap between reactive and proactive is where the next decade of higher education gets decided.

Episode 4 of The New Normal is live with Chancellor David Andrews of UMass Global.

He told us the deployment he knows will be his most controversial take in higher ed: fully student-facing AI without human intervention. In his words, "We're not waiting for the technology. We're waiting for the fear to reduce."

We get into:

- Why higher ed is organized around faculty instead of students, and what that costs in the AI era

- Serial monogamy with instructors: what one professor learns about a student almost never transfers to the next, and no amount of AI fixes it without micro-level data

- His playbook for getting started: pilots with the coalition of the willing, then the pain point that touches 75 to 80% of the institution. You don't fail, you pivot

- Sorting vs serving: universities were built to sort out who's worthy. The future belongs to the ones that serve everybody
What sounds strange today is just early. Then it becomes the new normal.

No one has figured out how to build an AI-native university that serves millions of students at scale. President Scott Pulsipher intends to be the first.

@westerngovernorsu spent thirty years building the model that produced half a million graduates, and there is already a team inside the university designing the one that replaces it. He intends to do it in half the time.

Most schools believe they are already working on this. What they are building is AI-enabled, not AI-native. A chatbot on the admissions page. A tutoring pilot in one department. The institution underneath is unchanged.

AI-native asks a harder question. What would you build if you started today, with these tools, and no obligation to preserve anything?

You would not start with the curriculum. You would start underneath it, with the enrollment, advising, and support layer that everything else sits on. An applicant who applies at eleven at night gets a real answer at eleven at night. Every student has support that knows their entire record. Then the academic model can change, because the constraint it was built around is gone.

Which is why the structural move matters more than the technology. Give the second model its own team and its own mandate.

"The model by which individuals access, traverse, and complete education, and how it's packaged, is gonna be totally different."
