Happy Monday from @overlapse 😊 courtesy of @bop_bristol ahead of the festival returning for a new edition 17-18 October 💞

Here's an introduction to Haiek Danak Sorginak – ALL OF THEM WITCHES by Spanish artist Bego Antón @bego_anton - it's our second book with her after releasing The Earth is Only a Little Dust Under Our feet in 2018 (an out of print classic)

We'll have this new book with us for the first time in Bristol, which revisits the witch trials of the Basque Country through a contemporary feminist lens. Developed over more than a decade in her home region, the project reconstructs the stories of women accused of witchcraft using historical records of confessions extracted under torture by the Inquisition. Rather than accepting the recorded accounts as fact, Antón transforms them into evocative photographs that challenge the myths, fears, and patriarchal narratives that shaped the persecution of the ostracised women.

🗨️ Featuring texts by Bego Antón, historian Amaia Nausia, and researcher Alice Markham-Cantor, the book connects the witch hunts to contemporary questions surrounding gender, authority, and the construction of historical narratives. The result is a visually rich, disruptive, and thought-provoking work that seeks to demystify the figure of the witch while honouring the lives of women silenced by persecution.

Warm greetings today from Tiffany @overlapse – taking over @Bop_Bristol in anticipation of the community-focused book fair and events opening next month.

We’ll have copies of STRAWBERRY BLUE by @marinos_tsagkarakis with us for the first time at BOP this year!

Netherlands-based Marinos Tsagkarakis shares an intimate, autobiographical project that reflects on migration, displacement, and the search for belonging. Created after the photographer left his homeland of Greece for northern Europe, the work traces a period of personal and emotional transition marked by separation from familiar environments, physical injury, relationship development and identity reformation.

Set within a local park near his new home, the landscape becomes both a physical and symbolic space for observation, interaction, realignment, and recovery. Through repeated wanderings and chance encounters with strangers, animals, and details of his surroundings, Tsagkarakis constructs a quiet, reflective visual diary of adaptation and self-redefinition. His analogue images are at once unsettling and strangely alluring, while engaging viewers to participate in an exploration through unknown territory. STRAWBERRY BLUE is a meditation on how belonging is not a fixed state, but is gradually formed through attention, memory, and the fragile continuity of lived experience.

Marinos Tsagkarakis is a fine-art photographer born (1984) and raised on the island of Crete. His work has exhibited in international festivals including Mois De La Photo (Paris), Jeju Biennale (South Korea), Unseen (Amsterdam), Fotofilmic (L.A & Vancouver), Athens Photo Festival, and art spaces across Europe and the USA. His work has featured in media by Der Spiegel, L’Oeil de la Photographie, Collector Daily, Vogue, Der Greif, and Urbanautica Institute.

Wishing you an invigorating weekend, in the outdoors if possible 🌳💞 by @overlapse

Greetings All 💕 This is Tiffany Jones – publisher and designer from @overlapse books - at the start of a new takeover with @bop_bristol 📚 I look forward to seeing some of you at the book fair and events in mid-October

Last year we were happy to have photographer Bryan Anselm with us at BOP, meeting with visitors and sharing advance copies of his first book SOUND THE SIRENS.

These portraits show people in their communities coping with the aftermath of hurricanes, floods, fires, and other storms in the US. They feature in SOUND THE SIRENS alongside colour images taken in the moments and hours after storm impacts.

Climate disasters in recent years have caused exponentially more damage through loss of life, property, and compounding economic destruction. This work focuses on the long-term effects that multiple disasters have had on communities across the United States, with tens of thousands of people left homeless and displaced while trying to rebuild their lives in the face of diminishing federal assistance programs and insurance coverage.

Bryan Anselm is a photojournalist based in New York, covering these disasters affecting communities for the past decade. He is a regular contributor to The New York Times and has work featured by The Guardian, The New Yorker, TIME, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, ProPublica, and others. Originally from Michigan, he studied photography at Western Kentucky University. @bryananselm

Thank you for taking the time to check out Bryan’s powerful work! You can find his book at BOP in October and see more on our website overlapse.com

All of Them Witches by Bego Antón @bego_anton

We're delighted to be working again with Spanish artist Bego Antón on her new book that revisits the witch trials of the Basque Country through a contemporary feminist lens. Developed over more than a decade, the project reconstructs the stories of women accused of witchcraft using historical records of confessions extracted under torture by the Inquisition. Rather than accepting the recorded accounts as fact, Antón transforms them into evocative photographs that challenge the myths, fears, and patriarchal narratives that shaped the persecution of the ostracised women.

Combining carefully conceived imagery and archival drawings with new and historical tests, the book gives visual presence to women whose own voices were erased from the Inquisition documents.

Antón reimagines the fantastical accusations—hysterical women flying and lurking in the Basque landscape, mysterious ointments made from toads, sabbath gatherings—not as evidence of guilt, but as symbols of the imagination imposed by those in power. Through this process, All of Them Witches becomes both a meditation on memory and a reclamation of the women's identities.

Featuring texts by the artist, historian Amaia Nausia and researcher Alice Markham-Cantor, the book connects the witch hunts to contemporary questions surrounding gender, authority, and the construction of historical narratives. The result is a visually rich, disruptive, and thought-provoking work that seeks to demystify the figure of the witch while honouring the lives of women silenced by persecution.

Sound the Sirens by Bryan Anselm @bryananselm

Sound the Sirens encompasses the long-term effects that climate disasters have on communities across the United States, with tens of thousands of people left homeless and displaced while trying to rebuild their lives. Despite decades of warnings by climate scientists about the impact of rising temperatures on the stability of our planet, climate data is now broadly ignored in the service of capital and convenience, while risking the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

Folded between the book pages, underlying images of solar flares with orange hues leak out from within. This design experience is a reminder of the driving forces behind climate disaster, with pictures of devastation tinged with the glow of ever-growing heat.

“[Anselm] takes us into the teeth of the destruction, forcing us to witness what is actually happening to homes, communities, and real people when hurricanes, floods, and wildfires wreak their increasingly intense havoc. ..it’s clear that we’re intentionally taking a step backward from necessary solutions and that new strategies (and visual languages) will now once again be needed to redirect climate engagement in urgently productive ways. So Anselm’s book arrives at just the right moment – unfortunately we are in need of a bracingly realistic slap in the face, and this photobook delivers it.”

Basque & Spanish bellow
🌱

People often say that making a book is like having a baby. To me, it feels more like the moment your children move out.

For ten years, I’ve been recreating the world described by women accused of witchcraft: magic ointments, animal metamorphoses, giving birth to toads and nursing them, flying on a horseback, fire, and rotten apples. All this time, these images lived only with me; as of yesterday, anyone can hold them in their hands.

It’s a strange feeling, losing control over what will happen to those pictures or how they’ll be interpreted. Just like when a daughter leaves home: now her own adventure begins. ✨

Making this book has been incredibly difficult. Sometimes I wonder how we keep making books despite so many limitations. But I had a wild idea to make it possible: bringing together @overlapse and @edicionescomisura , the two publishers who have trusted my work from the start. This coedition made It possible to tell this story in Basque (the language of the Witches), Spanish, and English.

Thanks to @insituartfestival we won the @gobiernovasco_eus publishing grant to print it. @marinacmeyer spent weeks lost in a cloud of witches, just as I did while taking the photos, to design this complex and beautiful object. Amaia Nausia contributed the history of witchcraft in the Basque Country, and Alice, a descendant of one of the women accused in Salem, connected witches from all over the world.

Heartfelt thanks also to @museodebrujas_zugarramurdi and @getxokultura for their support.

I truly hope this book serves to demystify the figure of the witch, to separate her from mythology and, by giving these women back their names and surnames, finally humanize them.

Fly high, witches!

In this work, Bryan Anselm brings together years and years of fieldwork documenting the disasters caused by climate change. The title itself, Sound the Sirens takes us straight to the heart of the project. His work is meticulous, dangerous, and extremely empathetic. This book builds a bridge between victims and viewers, seeking to break down the wall that makes us feel we are on one side or the other.

#GreifAlumni: We love to see artists whose work we have previously supported flourish! Join us in celebrating Marinos Tsagkarakis’s (@marinos_tsagkarakis) new publication with Overlapse (@overlapse), “Strawberry Blue.” 🍓

💬 Marinos describes how we supported this publication in becoming a reality; “The Der Greif X MPB (@mpbcom) scholarship came at the right moment, offering meaningful validation of the quality and relevance of my photographic work. It also provided essential support in developing the project further and ultimately bringing it to completion as a photobook.”

Officially launched in March at Unseen (@unseenphotofair) 2026, “Strawberry Blue” began after the artist’s migration from Greece to the Netherlands, where he was seriously injured in a road accident shortly after arriving.

An arduous recovery process, along with upheaval in adapting to an unfamiliar environment, triggered an inner quest for belonging and identity redefinition. Over time, Tsagkarakis wandered a local Dutch park, observing its shifting, dreamlike terrain and connecting with strangers and the natural world. The work reflects an off-kilter sense of resilience, persistence, and growing new roots. 🪴

"Birds flying high, you know how I feel
Sun in the sky, you know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by, you know how I feel
It's a new dawn, It's a new day
It's a new life for me, ooh
And I'm feeling good"
💓 Nina Simone

Our new title has arrived and is now flying round the world... meet STRAWBERRY BLUE by Marinos Tsagkarakis 🕊️

A meditative work photographed in an alluring local park in the Netherlands; Strawberry Blue began in the aftermath of the artist’s migration north from Greece, where soon after arrival he was badly injured in a road accident. An arduous recovery process — along with upheaval in adapting to an unfamiliar environment — triggered an inner quest for belonging and identity redefinition.

Over several years Marinos routinely wandered through the park terrain, observing its nuances and dreamlike setting while interacting with strangers and all living things. In portraits he glimpses reflections of himself, where echoes of his own struggles are in dialogue with the tangled, evolving landscape.

Strawberry Blue feels out of kilter at times, like laughing while crying. It’s about resilience, persistence and growing new roots… We are invited on this journey with minds open to the unknown, allowing the path ahead to lead us where it will.
