SOLO-EXHIBITION till OCT 30
Location: Praça Mercado Municipal de Braga, Portugal
Open: Tue-Fri 7am-5pm, Sat 7am-2pm
More Infos: https://encontrosdaimagem.com/2022/en/o-young-kwon/

In cooporation with the city of Braga and visual arts festival „Encontros da Imagem“ we transform the city’s market square into a meeting place of people and art. My half-scientific piece about the importance of common places for urbanites, visualised in a series of photographs, will hang above the typical hustle and bustle of the municipal market till the 30th of October.

Project description:
Common places are designed with regard to the needs of people. This is usually associated with the physical-material dimension of space, i. e. the natural and built environment. However, the social and individual dimension must also be included in the design of space. So common places are not only designed for people, but also with them. But how exactly do people relate to it? Why and which spaces are important for people?

Neighbourhoods in housing estates for example start from a place and require a spatial-built structure that connects people living close to each other; a formation of buildings and facilities where neighbours can make contact with each other or keep their distance. From a spatial sociological perspective, housing estates as physical superstructures do not simply exist as rigid, unchanging complexes, but have always been created in a certain temporal context under certain conditions and are subject to constant change through use.

The neighbourly determination of belonging depends on the spatial density and proximity of the development. The circle of known neighbours in high-rise buildings is thus generally defined more narrowly, whereby the integration of various facilities made available to the residents for common use is decisive. Young people attribute particular importance to outdoor common places with installed playground equipment, sports fields and open spaces for their socialisation.

The exhibition opening @thaliatheater within the #lessingtage2022 was a full success. Thanks to all my friends and the people for coming and showing such great interest in my work. I was flying high to say the least, the feedback was just overwhelming. 😌

The exhibition will be shown till the end of June 2022. You'll need to buy a theatre ticket though. Hit me up if you need a discount and I'll try my best.

Thank you for this great start into the new year! 🥳
