Bajau People and the Green Ecology reflects on the profound, centuries old bond between the Bajau people and the ocean a relationship built on respect, survival, and spiritual continui-ty. As one of the world’s last true sea dwelling communities, the Bajau embody a way of life that depends entirely on the health of marine ecosystems. In this painting, I use their presence as both subject and metaphor: a reminder that those who live closest to nature often become its caretakers, even when the damage is caused far beyond their shores.
At the centre of the composition is a large green, Rose and Thorns human figure, marine ani-mals navigating both vibrant coral and suffocating debris, and the haunting presence of plas-tic waste speaks to the growing imbalance between natural beauty and human negligence. The Bajau people, who routinely gather and remove human waste from the ocean as part of their daily lives, become quiet environmental stewards within the composition. Their efforts often unseen and unacknowledged symbolise a form of ecological guardianship that contrasts sharply with the global systems responsible for the pollution they must confront.
The upper part of the painting introduces another dimension: wind turbines and coastal structures appear on the horizon. Their presence represents humanity's search for cleaner and more sustainable ways of living, while also raising questions about how development can coexist with traditional communities and fragile marine ecosystems.
By juxtaposing traditional ocean life with modern pollutants and distant symbols of industry, the painting highlights the injustice of ecological burden: communities who live in harmony with the sea are forced to clean up the consequences of others’ excess. Yet it also celebrates resilience, cultural heritage, and the possibility of renewal.
At its core, this work is a call for environmental empathy. It honours the Bajau’s intimate connection to the ocean while urging viewers to reconsider their own relationship with nature. Through symbolism, contrast, and narrative depth, I invite the audience to imagine a future where human activity supports ecological balance.

WHERE HOPE REMAINS | A Duet Exhibition featuring O Yemi Tubi & Moses Zibor
@oyemit @moseszibor

Sfumato Art Creatives is pleased to present Where Hope Remains, a Duet Exhibition bringing together the works of O Yemi Tubi and Moses Zibor in an exploration of resilience, transformation, spirituality, social realities, and the enduring possibility of hope.

For Moses Zibor, vibrant colors, symbolic forms, and surreal compositions explore the invisible connections between humanity, nature, and the spiritual world. His work reflects on identity, inner strength, memory, and transformation, inviting viewers into a space of emotional and spiritual reflection.

O Yemi Tubi engages with the social and political realities that shape collective life. Through symbolism, portraiture, and emotionally charged narratives, his work addresses conflict, displacement, inequality, environmental concerns, and the resilience of individuals and communities.

Together, their works create a dialogue between the inner and outer worlds—between the spiritual forces that sustain us and the realities that challenge us. Though their approaches differ, both artists reveal the human capacity to endure, reflect, imagine, and seek something better.

TRUMP’S ICE CRIME: In Trump’s second term with his campaign of white supremacy with his MAGA movement he targeted the Somalis community in Minnesota. In their ruthlessness and savagery, Trump’s Gestapo – ICE officers executed many Americans not sparing white people like RENEE GOOD that was killed because of her solidarity stand with the oppressed non-white people. This is what influenced my painting titled Trump’s ICE Crime.
I illustrated the man in the middle of the painting in my unique style of Roses and Thorns. The Rosy day for the man was the day he got to America and the sad and thorny day was the day he was arrested by Trump’s ICE.

In Cooling Off at the Beach, I wanted to explore what it means for a body to return to nature not as an escape, but as a transformation. The figure in this painting stands at the edge of the water, half human and half rooted, as if the shoreline itself has begun to reclaim her. Her bark like limbs, textured like ancient wood, speak to endurance—how the body remembers every season it has survived.
The rose that replaces her head is not meant as a disguise but as a revelation. Its multi-coloured petals bloom outward in a spectrum that refuses a single identity. It becomes a symbol of emotional plurality: joy, longing, memory, desire, and renewal all unfolding at once. Where a face might express one feeling, the rose expresses many.
The water around her legs is both literal and metaphorical. It cools, cleanses, and softens, but it also marks the threshold between worlds—the fluid space where transformation becomes possible. She is not drowning in it, nor rising from it; she is simply being in it, letting the tide carry away what no longer belongs to her.
The red lace top and skirt introduce a human vulnerability into the otherwise elemental body. They hint at intimacy, sensuality, and the remnants of personal history. Even as she merges with nature, she carries traces of who she once was.
Ultimately, Cooling Off at the Beach is a meditation on renewal. It imagines a moment where the self is allowed to unravel and reassemble, where identity becomes something organic, growing, and beautifully unfinished. It is a portrait of cooling down not just from heat, but from expectation—an invitation to breathe, to soften, and to bloom in one’s own time. taken in Clacton on Sea by @oyemit
