The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, has cautioned politicians and their supporters against thvggery, political vi0lence and h∆te speech ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that such actions could discourage voters from participating in the electoral process.

Adegoke made the remarks while speaking with journalists at Dominion Radio and Television in Ibadan, where he appealed to political parties and their candidates to prevail on their supporters to maintain peace throughout the electioneering period.

According to him, no political party can win an election solely through the support of its registered members, stressing that candidates need the backing of the wider electorate to secure victory at the polls.

He urged politicians to focus on explaining their programmes, policies and development plans rather than attacking opponents or making inflammatory statements capable of heightening political tensions.

“Our campaign should be issue based. We should not incite the people. We should measure what we say. Don’t attack one another. Tell the electorate what you want to do and let them judge you,” Adegoke said.

The ADC candidate also identified youth unemployment as one of the factors contributing to political thvggery, arguing that providing gainful employment and economic opportunities for young people could help reduce their vulnerability to political manipulation.

He pledged to prioritise job creation if elected governor, adding that young people who are gainfully engaged would be less available for acts of political vi0lence.

His comments come amid concerns over political tensi0n in Oyo State following a reported clash involving Accord Party members and suspected h00dlums in the Molete area of Ibadan. The All Progressives Congress (APC) had also previously alleged that its convoy was attacked by thvgs in Ibadan.

Adegoke appealed to all governorship candidates and political leaders in the state to promote peaceful campaigns and ensure that Oyo State does not become a centre of political attacks and int!m!dation ahead of the 2027 elections.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, representing Oyo North Senatorial District, to mobilise support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to a report by Newspeak Online.

The report, published on Friday, October 16, 2026, states that Buhari met with Tinubu on Friday night. The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, was also said to have attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Tinubu was said to have directed Buhari to return to Oyo State and work towards victory for the APC, including the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, and other APC candidates contesting the 2027 elections.

The development comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen the APC’s political structure in Oyo State following disagreements over the party’s primaries and candidate selection.

In July 2026, Buhari joined other prominent APC figures, including former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin, former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and former Deputy Governor Raufu Olaniyan, in discussions concerning the party’s unity and electoral strategy ahead of 2027.

Tinubu’s reported engagement with Buhari highlights the importance of party mobilisation and cooperation among key stakeholders as the APC prepares for the next electoral cycle in Oyo State.

With Senator Sharafadeen Alli emerging as the party’s governorship candidate, attention will be on how APC leaders work together to consolidate support and strengthen the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

Governor Seyi Makinde has pledged to initiate the process of transforming the Iseyin Campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, into a full-fledged autonomous university.

The governor gave the assurance during the inauguration and handover of the Alhaji Kazeem Owonikoko Building at L.A. Primary School, Oke Esa, Iseyin, following an appeal by Alhaji Ahmed Raji, SAN, President of the Oke-Ogun Development Consultative Forum (ODCF).

Raji, while commending the Makinde administration for its developmental projects across Iseyin and the wider Oke-Ogun region, urged the governor to grant the Iseyin campus full autonomy as an independent university.

He highlighted the importance of the institution to the educational and economic development of Oke-Ogun, with the proposed university envisioned to focus on areas including agriculture, renewable energy and information and communication technology (ICT).

Responding to the appeal, Makinde said his administration would pursue the necessary procedures, including submitting an application to the National Universities Commission (NUC) and conducting a sustainability study.

“Regarding your request on the Iseyin Campus of LAUTECH becoming an autonomous university, we will go through the process. We will apply through the NUC, and I will carry out a sustainability study too. So, what you have asked for is done,” the governor said.

The Iseyin campus currently houses LAUTECH's College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources. The proposed autonomy would represent a significant institutional development for Iseyin and the wider Oke-Ogun region if the necessary processes are completed.

The governor's announcement signals a commitment to pursue the proposal. However, the application, sustainability assessment and relevant regulatory procedures will need to be addressed before the campus can operate as a separate autonomous university.

The event also featured the inauguration of the donated school building, which was equipped with classrooms, offices, solar power, furniture and modern learning facilities.

The City Boy Movement, Oyo State Chapter, says its membership has reached 236,487 verified members as it intensifies grassroots mobilisation across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The movement announced the milestone through its official Oyo State social media platform, describing the figure as a reflection of growing participation, commitment and grassroots engagement.

As part of its expansion drive, the movement recently extended its activities to Ogbomoso Zone, where Hon. Olufemi Onireti led a series of outreach activities, including the commissioning of a new zonal office, membership registration and engagement with traders at Arada Market. The team also paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers in Ogbomoso South.

According to the movement, the activities are aimed at expanding its membership base, strengthening its grassroots presence and taking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda closer to the people.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Chapter has announced plans for its official inauguration and town hall meeting scheduled for Monday, October 19, 2026, at Jogor Centre, Ibadan.

The event is expected to provide an opportunity for members and supporters to converge as the movement seeks to consolidate its organisational structure and strengthen its mobilisation efforts across Oyo State.

The movement’s announced membership figure of 236,487 has not been independently verified by Oyodecides2027.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has pledged to grant autonomy to all Local Government Areas (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) from May 29, 2027, if elected governor.

Alli made the promise on Thursday, October 15, during a political gathering in Ibadan, where the Oyo State chapter of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement was inaugurated.

“All our LCDAs and LGs will have autonomy on the day we are sworn in on May 29, 2027,” he said.

The pledge comes amid ongoing national discussions about local government autonomy following the Supreme Court's July 2024 judgment affirming financial autonomy for constitutionally recognised local government councils.

If elected, Alli's proposed policy would make local government administration a key issue in his approach to governance.

At the event, Alli also declared that the APC was working to reclaim the Oyo State Government House in 2027, urging eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and support the party's candidates.

The 2027 governorship election is expected to feature competing positions on governance, public services and the administration of local councils.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, declaring, “We’re solidly behind you.”

The monarch made the statement on Thursday, October 15, 2026, when a delegation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, led by its Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, visited his palace in Oyo town.

During the meeting, the Alaafin reportedly expressed his support for Tinubu, describing the President as “our own” and assuring the visiting delegation of his backing.

The visit formed part of the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s consultations with traditional rulers ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the party intensifies efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The delegation also visited the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan as part of its engagement with traditional institutions in Oyo State.

The meeting comes as political parties and their leaders continue to strengthen alliances and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Alaafin’s declaration adds another development to the growing political conversation in Oyo State, where the contest for political influence is expected to intensify as the elections draw closer.

In 2019, the late former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, made a significant observation during his farewell message to his successor, Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the transition of power as a peaceful one without a cr!s!s.

Ajimobi noted that, for the first time, Oyo State had experienced a change of government without a cr!s!s of any form. He further observed that even those who previously engaged in h00ligan!sm and caused tr0uble in the state appeared to have become more composed, better dressed and better behaved.

He expressed gratitude to God for the peaceful transition and openly prayed for Makinde’s success, expressing his hope that Oyo State would continue to prosper under the new administration.

However, one of the most significant parts of his message was his warning against a return to the days of cr!s!s and cha0s, when residents were afraid to pass through certain roads and areas because of insecurity and vnrest.

Seven years later, as Oyo State approaches another major election cycle, concerns about political vi0lence and intolerance have resurfaced.

Recent reported attacks involving opposition party members, including APC supporters and members of the Accord Party in Ibadan, have raised concerns about the safety of political actors and the atmosphere surrounding political activities in the state.

The reported attacks have sparked allegations and counterclaims involving political actors, with fingers pointed at individuals linked to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). The allegations have been disputed, and responsibility for the incidents remains a matter for credible and impartial investigations.

With the 2027 elections approaching and political parties intensifying their activities, these developments have renewed discussions about the responsibility of political leaders to protect democratic participation and prevent a return to an atmosphere of fear and vi0lence.

Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, has applauded the Federal Government's empowerment of 700 young Nigerians in the state through vocational training, business start-up kits and digital learning devices.

In a statement shared on his social media page, Alli expressed pride in supporting the initiative, which was coordinated by Dr Abiola Arogundade through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE).

The programme, implemented under the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS), was designed to equip young people with practical skills and tools to improve their economic prospects and become self-reliant.

The 10-day training programme, which commenced on September 28, 2026, concluded on Friday, October 9, with a graduation ceremony at Kensington Adebutu Hall, University of Ibadan.

Beneficiaries received vocational training in areas including graphics and artificial intelligence (AI), makeup artistry and fashion design. Participants were also provided with relevant equipment and business starter kits to help them apply their newly acquired skills, while 500 additional beneficiaries received tablets to support digital learning.

The APC governorship candidate also reiterated his vision for Oyo State, declaring that access to skills, opportunities and youth empowerment represents the future he wants for the state.
