Learners from the Omusati region are taking part in a competition to address Gender-Based Violence. After receiving in-depth training, they were tasked to create role-plays and short stories to educate their fellow learners. Peer education is a powerful tool. Congratulations to all the learners and schools that took part in the challenge: you are making a difference.

Stay tuned to learn who the winners are! This is part of our project ‘Speak up’ funded by German Embassy Windhoek by @oyotrust

KAVANGO AND OTJOZONDJUPA, are you ready? Next week the OYO dance troupe and guests will perform in Rundu, Grootfontein, Otjiwarongo and Okahandja to create awareness about the need for inclusive education and inclusive societies.

Many people are living with different disabilities in Namibia. Some are visible (Deaf, Visually impaired, limb impairment) but some are not visible (epilepsy, bipolar disorder, etc.). It is important to ensure young people differently abled are fully integrated into the school system, are given the opportunity to learn and contribute positively to society as adults.

So if you see the OYO bus, just join us! You will be treated to amazing pieces and contribute meaningfully to the conversation. This project is made possible thanks to support from @finlandinnamibia by @oyotrust

Last week we were privileged to perform at Havana Secondary School in Katutura, to the whole school, addressing the issue of teenage pregnancy. This performance was part of an event organised by the school prior to the start of the exam period.

The dance troupe performed ‘A different me’ and ‘teacher’ - two pieces looking at teenage pregnancy from two very different angles. Our facilitator, Kassi, then interacted with learners. Congratulations to all involved and well done on the school management for taking this initiative. by @oyotrust

Flashback of the tour of the Ariamsvlei Youth Group that recently happened in the ||Kharas region. It is the second time the group is going on tour with OYO. Growing from strength to strength, the group is seeking opportunities to do more. Talented, they delivered a powerful message about GBV in the region.

Some of the schools in the South are very large, but our facilitators Cecilia, Avehe and Kassi did a good job engaging learners.

This project is made possible thanks to Horizon Trust. by @oyotrust

Something is cooking... In partnership with German Embassy Windhoek we are preparing our next large-scale production, following success of pieces such as ‘A little prince in Namibia’ or ‘remembering Johnny’. We will dance a very famous German author, revising a story most of us have heard about...

To be premiered at the @National Theatre of Namibia in April 2027, you can already mark your calendar: this is something you do not want to miss! Here, you get a sneak pic at the rehearsal and creation process... Can you guess what piece we are working on? @germanyinnam by @oyotrust

The OYO team is proud to show off its new T-shirt. Designed by Cecilia Petrus, it will help our partners to easily identify us. And it was the opportunity for a few fun group photos!

So watch out for us: you will see this T-shirt more often in the future. by @oyotrust

GETTING CERTIFICATES OF PARTICIPATION

Learners from Rehoboth High School and Anes High School in Rehoboth received their certificates of participation for the outstanding work they did during our campaign against GBV in the town. They both created pieces for the intergenerational dialogues and performed them in the location, alongside the OYO dance troupe.

Congratulations to all the learners involved. Your hard work and dedication is not going unnoticed. This is a project funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in South Africa. by @oyotrust

The Ariamsvlei youth group is currently touring schools in the ||Kharas region, sharing its performance and addressing the issue of Gender-Based Violence. Being from the region, having first hand experience in what happens, they created a piece that is both realistic and moving. At the time when learners start to focus on their final exams, it is a good reminder that there is help, should you need it.

Congratulations to Cecilia, Avehe, Berlnitha and Kassi for their work on this project and of course congratulations to the youth involved: together, we can make a difference.

This project is made possible thanks to support from Horizon Trust (Rena TE). We truly appreciate their commitment and constant effort to support young people from the South. @kassiedwellz @angelica_avehe @cpetrus16 by @oyotrust

We are excited to announce that our project ‘Echoes is stone’ is scheduled to start very soon. While it has suffered many delays, our team of artists has been selected and we should hopefully kick it off end October.

Through this project, we will imagine what rock art from the Erongo mountains would tell us if they were coming to life nowadays. A multi-media dance performance will be produced, as well as a comic book.

So stay tuned - this amazing production will be a must-see in 2027.

As part of the ‘Movement - International Dance Festival Namibia’ OYO in collaboration with the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre and funding from @Embassy of France to Namibia - Ambassade de France en Namibie organised a dance seminar in August. One of the outcomes of the seminar was the need to create more platforms for young dancers.

The FNCC is therefore proud to host the first event Fri-Dance - a karaoke for dancers if you want. Dancers are welcome to showcase their skills. The public can watch for free. OYO will be present to support the initiative. So join us on Friday and witness the growth of the dance sector in Namibia. @fnccnam by @oyotrust

Happy birthday to Kassi who recently joined OYO again. Years ago, Kassi was part of the OYO dance troupe. After taking a break, to pursue his dreams, he joined again, as senior production assistant. His role is currently multi-faceted, from helping setting up to facilitating pieces, from providing security during community events to supporting youth groups. As a trained paramedic, he is a much-needed addition to the team.

We would like to wish him many happy returns and lots of success in all his projects. And while he will spend his birthday in the ||Kharas region, supporting the Ariamsvlei youth group, we wish him a successful year ahead. by @oyotrust
