I know, I know, I’m biased. But he’s the CUTEST dog on a log I ever did see 🥹 taken in Swithland Wood by @ozthegoldendog

Reactive dog owners; you’ve got this ✨

Ozzie has not been an easy dog. Hiding away, only doing quiet walks and keeping our distance was much easier than facing triggers head on. Apart from whenever it wasn’t. Whenever something came along that I couldn’t control, he had no resilience or way to deal with those situations.

In the first year of his life, we went to two sets of puppy classes back to back, beginner and intermediate, and we ‘passed’. We went to a block of 1-1 classes and we ‘passed’, with certificates to prove it. We took him to families and friends, exposed him to people and other dogs, booked him in with a local, highly recommended dog walker and ‘trainer’ for ‘structured pack walks’ 4 days a week, ignored all the unwanted behaviour and heavily rewarded the wanted behaviour. We kept our distance from triggers, worked on rewarding disengagement, keeping him below threshold, blocking any interactions. We were told over and over that we were doing everything right, it would all click into place, and to just keep going.

Spoiler alert: it didn’t. The certificates meant nothing. The structured dog walker/trainer phased us out. The trainers kept regurgitating the same things, despite it clearly not helping. These ‘professionals’ were stealing a living, and we were on our own.

Except we weren’t. Thanks to this little online community, I connected with other owners who were struggling and felt less alone. I was introduced to trainers who could actually help us. For the first time, our world got bigger instead of smaller. And it just keeps getting bigger. So grateful to everyone who’s been a part of us getting to where we are, a world away from where we were.

Please, if you’re a reactive dog owner, don’t hide from the world. It’s so worth the work 🧡

Favourite month and season has arrived! Why does autumn feel like waking up to me?

Summer was a bit of a whirlwind in the best way. Hen do’s, wedding planning, dress shopping, food tastings, plenty of gigs, honestly one of my best summers, but I’m looking forward to autumn walks, dark nights, and crisp mornings. You can keep the heat and the sunshine, give me fog and forests any day of the week 🧡

What’s the highlight of your summer?

Start a book with me 🧡

I started this and immediately didn’t want to put it down. The dynamic between Monty and Reese is so well done. I loved the sparring and refusal to back down, whilst still having each others back. And I loved being back with some of the Windy City characters!

✨ I’m so happy we got a Monty book! What side characters would you love to see a book for? by @ozthegoldendog

What’s so great about a dog? Everything 🧡

Discovered any new walks lately? The beach clips are from our recent trip to Wales to our favourite beach, Black Rock Sands.

Power saving mode activated 😴 cannot wait to be back out on adventures together.

Ozzie is nearly 3 weeks post TPLO surgery and seems to be recovering well! He had his first physio session at the end of last week and he blew me away. He just lay there the whole time, letting the physio handle his leg and massage him all over. Still early days with minimal exercise (2-3x 10 minute on lead walks a day) but I’m so relieved he’s making progress. taken in Leicestershire by @ozthegoldendog
