Start a book with me 🧡

I started this and immediately didn’t want to put it down. The dynamic between Monty and Reese is so well done. I loved the sparring and refusal to back down, whilst still having each others back. And I loved being back with some of the Windy City characters!

What Fury Brings arc review ✨
★★★

In a country where women hold physical power over men, traditional gender dynamics are flipped and Olerra must steal herself a husband to impress the nobles. There’s a bit of ‘the chosen one’ trope reversal, plus “touch him and die / he’s mine” which I loved. We love a stabby fmc here.

Olerra is a great plus-size fmc who is openly proud of her physique and doesn’t need anyone to validate her body, which was so great to see! I liked how the story normalises queer identities with the characters casually embracing queerness as a part of every day life.

While the content is clearly adult, the writing style often felt more YA imo, which was a bit jarring. I felt character development leaned towards telling rather than showing.

Overall, a bold and inclusive fantasy with a refreshing take on familiar tropes.

If there was any sound to sum up Alfred it would be this. His determination to win over @ozthegoldendog and @rosie.the.doberman and the stubbornness when they ignore him 🤣
I keep trying to tell him that stealing their toys and shoulder barging them to chase him isn’t the way to make friends, but he is convinced it will charm them 🤣😅

My goals for Alfred this year are pretty simple and focused on letting him grow in a safe and happy environment.

1. Our primary focus will be recall, I’m a firm believer that a solid recall can get you out of most situations. His recall is coming along, but certainly not consistent in high distraction situations.

2. Appropriate play with other dogs. Lottie never learnt to play and she struggles still so it is important to me that Alfred learns to play. Especially being such a friendly dog, he needs to know what is appropriate and to learn to read other dogs. At the moment his play style is best described as ‘thuggish’ 😅
With our two dog friends he steals their toy and then shoulder slams them to try and initiate chase/wrestling/tug 🤣

3. Neutrality around other dogs. While it is important he learns to play, around unknown dogs I am more focused on neutrality. I certainly don’t want to be a ‘it’s ok he’s friendly’ as he bombs after another dog. At the moment we recall and sit when other dogs walk past, and in time we will build on walking past them without lunging to say hello.

4. Scentwork. While I don’t intend to ‘work’ him, he uses he’s nose a lot, constantly scenting the air. So I’d like to work on some scent games with him to see how he gets on. Maybe I’ll book him into the next @barn_hunt_uk I do with @lottie_gsd_dog

5. More adventures - because what better way for him to grow into a well-rounded dog than building his experiences with a wide range of adventures! ❤️

Of course I had to do a TOG one, featuring a sneaky guest appearance from my own personal Fenrys. Would love to know your faves! 🫶

My love for TOG only grew after finishing and reflecting on it as a whole. It’s such a complex story with multiple povs, emotional growth, and so many character journeys. I would die for Manon, Dorian and Fenrys. Then there’s Rowan ‘my wife’ Whitethorn (micro trope unlocked) and our fire breathing bitch queen herself, Aelin. I finished the series in June and I already want to read it again!
