Thrilled to announce a duo presentation of #DionneLee and #ParkMcArthur for participation in @parisphotofair Voices Sector curated by #zashacolah and #francescozanot at the Grand Palais, November 12-15, 2026

The Disappearance

As photography prepares to celebrate its bicentenary, the medium finds itself in a paradoxical position. Conceived—among other things—as a tool to preserve a record of what would otherwise vanish, photography is celebrated today even as its traditional form appears increasingly unstable, transformed and disrupted by processes that alter its nature and status. This paradox serves as the starting point for the curatorial approach to this section. Implicitly referencing the “surviving image” traditionally associated with the origins of photography—*View from the Window at Le Gras*—the project reimagines an anniversary that might also be viewed as a threshold: between commemoration and obsolescence, between mourning and renewal. In this sense, the history of photography becomes inseparable from the cultural, political, and material conditions of disappearance. by @p.bibeau_

“I think a lot about the process of deterioration from working with organic materials, and Beverly’s approach to thinking about ruination has shown up in a lot of my work.” (Dionne Lee)

Thank you @theartnewspaper.official @allisoncmeier for this interview and @rmmatalon for this genius pairing.

‘Divination: Beverly Buchanan & Dionne Lee’ opens 09/04 @camhouston

The two artists are united by having used their work to conjure through images and objects something unseen. As Lee says: “I think that artmaking is a form of divination and the act of creation requires a process of channelling.” by @p.bibeau_

Thrilled to announce Divination: Beverly Buchanan & Dionne Lee opens to the public on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 7–9PM @camhouston

Divination: Beverly Buchanan & Dionne Lee is organized by Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and curated by Rebecca Matalon, Senior Curator @rmmatalon

Divination: Beverly Buchanan & Dionne Lee foregrounds Buchanan’s and Lee’s explorations of the myths, majesty, and dispossessions embedded in the American landscape.

Divination pairs materials from the late Buchanan’s archives, including photographs, journals, writing, and ephemera, with a selection of videos, photographs, and sculptures by the Columbus-based Lee. While Buchanan (1940–2015) and Lee (b. 1988, New York City) are from different generations, both artists explore relationships between Blackness and land, mining racialized histories of the American landscape and its dualities as a site of sanctuary and displacement, sustenance and deprivation.

As (Camille) Dungy writes, “She is not reprising the twentieth-century monument-making impulse of notable Earthworks artists. Those modes of looking have wreaked havoc on the landscape and individuals, particularly Black and brown people.”

Excellent review by @victoriahorrocks_ of ‘Currents’ Dionne Lee’s first monograph recently released by @aperturefnd designed by @bryancipolla in the July/August 2026 issue of @brooklynrail online now by @p.bibeau_
