Step inside 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵, now on view at MarinMOCA through August 30. Bringing together six women artists — Jay DeFeo, Nicole Phungrasamee Fein, Deborah Lohrke, Sandra Ono, Tressa Pack, and Veronica Ryan — the exhibition invites visitors into a space of quiet attention, material exploration, and contemplation. Through painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture, these artists explore the ways we perceive, remember, and make meaning in a world that often moves too quickly. Visitors are invited to slow down, look closely, and consider: what shapes the way we think? Come spend time with the works, discover new details, and experience the exhibition for yourself before it closes. Artist Spotlight: Sandra Ono Sandra Ono’s mixed-media practice spans sculpture, painting, and installation. Her recent works use everyday objects and materials to explore questions related to loss, memorialization, and healing. By recontextualizing the physical characteristics, function, and cultural associations of her materials, her objects generate new meanings and resonances. Inspired by her grandmother’s practice of building and tending shrines, Ono’s works serve as repositories of care and connection, sustaining memory through repeated acts of engagement. In The Shape of Thought, her abstractions layer the familiar, gestural, and organic, inviting viewers into a quiet space where memory, materiality, and contemplation converge. On view now in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘖𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 through August 30. @sandra_ono_ @p.bibeau_ Images: 1. Sandra Ono, Untitled (Greensboro VI), 2022. Towels and acrylic, 41.5 × 31 × 3.5 in. Artist practice talks and collage workshop. 5 - 7.30pm MST/PDT @cntrforcreativephoto The embodied landscape foregrounds artists Dionne Lee and Kristine Potter, whose interdisciplinary field work proposes new methodologies for critical landscape practice. Engaging photography, land, and body work, their art investigates the ways in which we navigate as individuals and communities through the real and projected environments of the US South and Southwest. Charged and vital, their embodied practices disrupt and challenge the inherited moral narratives of colonial and gender-based violence as they operate within these historically complex territories. Positing new embodied critical practices, they assimilate new strategies for survival, understanding, and change within our evolving social landscape.
