A week ago today I hung on his neck one last time. My baby Bourbon was diagnosed with EPM this spring, right after I began riding him. I’m so lucky we shared our first dressage lessons together, I could feel his Grand Prix movement every step we took, he was electric.. He had so much to give and always gave more than he could. Despite treating him for several months it worsened. He must have been sassing around in the paddock when he fractured his hock last week. I miss him every moment, his nips and squeals, his stealing hats and opening windows, but mostly what he could have become. He was only 5, it feels like I’ve lost a child. I’ve learned in the past week I gave him the best shot at life he could have had, and I would do it all again. Rest easy big boi, mommy loves you so much...
