I couldn’t think of any way to sugarcoat this, there’s just something not right about witnessing @instagram users pleading in their bios for creepy individuals not to harass them in their DM’s.

Whether you are a woman, gender-nonconforming, a man who stands up against other men, have a disability, have a belly, or body hair, or deviate in away way from the prescribed norm, we pay the price for it—we “deal with it.”

My poll—which majority women answered—tells me that they know exactly what I’m talking about. As women, we are socialized for our “safety” to prevent encouraging “the whims” of men. Furthermore, we are taught to say please and thank you and “deal with it, lest we want to be called out of names—or worst yet, physically harmed once stepping out of the cyberspace of the socials. Especially if we are “asking for it” with our clothes and our Instagram posts?

I appreciate the spreading of love and and open celebration, but please, respect me. Respect us. And know, that this “please” is a courtesy. Respect is absolutely essential.

I don’t know about you, but “this body doesn’t feel like mine.” —jm

seriously. thank you for speaking on this, it feels so lonely to be a femme-presenting human on this app sometimes due to the nonstop horniness! people should learn not to project their own desires onto us and our bodies and let women's bodies be art without being sexualized. again, tysm for posting this🥺 feels so good to feel validated/know that everyone else deals with this too.

This is so powerful. Thank you for speaking on this and creating art that so poetically captures what we deal/feel too often

exactly. there are construction workers every day where I go to school and I am so sick of being stared at or harassed every single day just for dressing how I feel most myself 😭😭

It is so incredible the level to humanization that takes place with women and just feminine bodies in general. Like at every point of your life someone with this experience is made to constantly feel like they aren’t allowed to make decisions over their body and have any agency of what happens to it
