I started running when I was 10, at school, when I realised I was pretty good at it and I also swam at county level, often training 4/5 times a week. As a child, I cycled everywhere, on my little red bike that my dad got for free then spray painted for me, before progressing to a Peugeot racer which I had many cycling accidents on while carrying my swimming stuff and flute around town! It got stolen outside the library and I was upset, mainly, because I knew I’d need to walk everywhere from then on!

We were a family that moved together; walking in the Welsh mountains, swimming in Welsh rivers, lakes and the sea was how we spent holidays and any spare time (grandparents had a banging caravan by the sea). Add to that a bit of train spotting with a packet of crisps or allotmenting…haha!

We all know how crucial movement is to our overall health, and I’m really grateful my parents created this family culture of movement, experiences and exploration. Watch the vid for some old pics of me and my siblings when we were younger…

Anyway, this weekend I’m running the Bath Half Marathon to raise money for @bath.mind a charity I’ve been working with for a long time, sharing training and workshops on the science and practice of supporting mental health and wellbeing, that are accessible, inclusive and realistic.

Funding has been cut quite dramatically in this field, and so many people benefit from the incredible work @bath.mind do. So, I will be running my 11th half marathon on Sunday (slowly!) to support them. Link is in my profile if you’d like to sponsor me 💙

People tagged are who I move with (in this video). Also, cheers to @thelifeofmrdavidleo for the first pic

Gemma - I love this video. What an awesome celebration of ‘moving’ (rather than it being seen as punishment or some payment traded for ‘treats’). 🙌 good luck for Sunday ❤️

I love this!! I wish my parents had done this when we were kids because both me and my sister have struggled with exercising regularly as adults! I think it’s so important as a result; should I ever be blessed with children, I will be using this approach 👏👏 Good luck on Sunday 👏👏
