3 years agoWhat happens if you just roll it on the table .. does it always settle in the same orientation
3 years agoRolling it will be sufficient, it’s just hard to stay on the high spot when moving it on a plate. I have designed tool a cheap better way to check errors in shafts than v blocks, originally designed it for crankshafts. Not sure what Thompson’s shaft is usually speced at for straightness but I’ve never really had an issue with it dimensionally.
3 years agoI've had brand new crankshafts come with a .020" bend in it. I was blown away. Manufacturer replaced without question tho. Haven't used the brand since
3 years agoNice setup 🔥 in the past Ive rolled shafts on a clean surface plate for a quick way to check without measuring
3 years agoWe use either a 3/4 Emuge Carbide end mill, or a .750 gauge pin for indicating chucks, main spindle, and subspindles in. Thompson bar should be straight, however it might have been a precision pry bar during its lifetime😂

3 years agoSo what’s gonna be the process to fix it? ? Bounce it on a used flapper wheel and check again? 😂
