Ahh where to begin.. ‘When The Coal Dust Settled’ - Out Now. 5 years of writing, research, growth and a huge effort to push this over the line amongst the chaos of life.
I’ve always wanted to put out an album that represented who I am and where I’m from but relatable to people far beyond these hills and when something lights a fire in you ,you sure as hell chase that. Initially, inspired by my family of coal miners and hill farmers, an album that grew into something much more… the social injustice, the oppression of the working class, greed over human life, that’s ingrained in these hillsides and valleys but also, it’s a celebration of the camaraderie, community spirit, the coming together of people through the hardships, finding beauty and hope in the people and stories passed down to me through books, my family and the people I’ve met along the way, traveling the valleys shearing sheep, drinking in the pubs and clubs and kicking a rugby ball about.
In a way it’s not my album, just a reflection of the history and the communities that surround me and that’s important to me. It inspires me. Makes me proud.
No stone was left unturned on this album, it deserved the detail as the stories were not mine but an honour and a privilege to deliver them through song.
