For an established male writer this was, and is, a superlative female led reality set in the world of 20th century competitive chess, and was first published in 1983! Full review on my Goodreads linked above in my Profile. Should I watch the TV show?

With just seven books read in May this was my lowest monthly tally in perhaps decades! The reason? I am currently fascinated with vlogs on Africa by Africans. Current fave is content on Burkina Faso leader Captain Ibrahim Traote who:
- made education free for all under 18s
- made power and water free to the elderly
- lives modestly and refused the president's high salary
- invested savings into food processing plants and mechanised agriculture creating jobs and home produced goods
- invested in nuclear energy
- is getting 7, 000 km of roads laid a year
- has began building a national railway network
- fought back big against the Jihadists
- nationalised the gold mines
- refuses foreign aid... etc. etc
...yet there have been 18 assassination attempts on his life financed by the West! Whenever an African leader looks to be doing good without the West, it seems to make them unhappy, murderously unhappy! Search #IbrahimTraore

Season two of FX's Legion does not match the brilliance of season one so far, but here's hoping it improves.
Just finished a rewatch of The Office 🇺🇸, and I am a Dwight fan for life. When Jim stops Dwight from essentially getting blamed and sacked by Sabre... FEELS ❤️

I loved the show but never read the book. Thanks for sharing about the cool leader. I’m jealous!

The TV series (“The Queen’s Gambit”) was amazing in all dimensions, from her outstanding performance to a cinematography that made chess look dynamic and fast! (while I love playing it since I was a kid, I understand that some people prefer football..). So I must read the book, thanks for the recommendation!!😄

Thanks for sharing this. I must confess I don’t know much about Ibrahim Traore but have had a bit of a read now

Thomas Sankara is one of my convert favourite African (actually world) leaders, though I’m not clear if the West was implicated in his death

I've got The Queen's Gambit on my tbr. I've no idea when I'll read it. There are too many books in my stacks. Very interesting information about that African leader. Those achievements should be celebrated in the national media. What is wrong with the world? And stick with Legion. It's bizarre in places but I enjoyed all the seasons and it has a good ending.
